In conservative towns, a call is usually a sign of mutual respect between the two parties involved. Making everything digital destroys the community between buyer and seller and is a reason why there is service fatigue and exhaustion in lef

We don't run internal honeypots and no one has ever been caught in our company, so I disagree. And yes, a reply may be "That you know of...", but considering that we run weekly audits and nothing has leaked, I can be 100% sur

Our Fortune 500 company uses the conferencing tool that I wrote up over a weekend, and when the exec asked me to auto-enable webcams, I immediately put my foot down and said no. I was considering disabling cameras altogether, but arguably t

I think it's important to be clear and concise when discussing these things, otherwise people can easily get confused, like the poster. Keep in mind that some of us operate on rigidity and what may be obvious to you is not obvious to o

Sounds like someone had a bad case of framework chasing and hype driven development. I support the original poster as developing your own is always better than reusing, no exceptions.

I disagree vehemently. Every time I reach for a JS framework, my fans spin and I get concerned that my notebook is going to take off to the moon. Writing my own, or better yet, staying away from JS altogether, has resulted in more stable, m

Why should we let the government mandate what we do with our own safety? I'm glad that the US is trending towards small government and fewer regulations, this is absurd.

It's a social norm in the US. If you don't like it, there are other countries to eat at.

What about including the free market of tax helper systems and services? You'll be wiping out an entire industry - doesn't seem very conservative to me.

Coal is very much alive in prospering countries, and I stand with other conservatives in that we don't need new fancy energy production.

It's crazy how many people on this forum are disagreeing with you. Has HN's truly lost its community and the old greybeards who used to stand up for free speech?

It's more likely you had a bad cold rather than COVID, considering that most of the symptoms are the same. All my friends in Texas say similar things.

I doubt it - CK is funded and the FTC is underfunded. Trusting the government over private in this scenario could be perilous.

The lack of free speech laws means its impossible to accurately determine whether the reported figures are accurate, since the government can just censor what they don't like. So no, I (and I imagine most conservatives) don't acce

I wouldn't back down in your scenario, as RMS says, all software should be free, implying that it should be open for us to change as needed.

I'm not entirely sure what's wrong with that - as humans we are generally hardwired to productivity, especially in conservative environments that I grew up in.

In our short lives, work will probably be the most fulfilling endeavor we undertake, and we should be grateful that there are so many great companies willing to offer jobs to workers like us.

Big companies with that money can hire more employees, offering the community more jobs and furthering our economy. It's very rare for a large company to take a subsidy and hoard it, or not use it for public goodwill.

That research seems heavily biased. I've talked to many women from many states and the majority opinion is that they'd rather the freedom and liberties in Texas (and similar states) than being regulated to no end in other states.
