In this case the CPU wasn’t really saturated with work but with contention on global locks. The contention is lessened by removing the amount of concurrent mounts that are being done. I wonder if simply setting a maximum number of concurren

Interestingly. This enhancement has been proposed in July 2025, accepted and merged in August 2025, and released in November 2025. The blog post is also from November. And now it shows here.

Well then you can use CoreBoot (or OpenCore always forget which is which) to run newer versions on older hardware.

Hugging Face already has this. But you need to be logged in and add the hardware to your profile.

CVE are handed out like candy in Java land for artifacts that have code that only opens up a vulnerability when another package is available and the first artifact is misconfigured. So I think you would be fully in your right to claim a CVE

We have many apps that run on <1 core just fine for the business logic and run on K8S. If we then use a parallel or concurrent garbage collector it will eat through the cpu limit of the app in a blink causing the process not to be schedu

After writing my previous post I was wondering, do we actually need to instrument the barrier events and other code tied to a GC? Currently we benchmark our application with different GC at different settings and resource constraints and th

Thank you for this interface! It will definitely help in tracking down GC related performance issues or in selecting optimal settings. One thing that I still struggle with, is to see how much penalty our application threads suffer from othe

> Good code still has a cost > Delivering new code has dropped in price to almost free... but delivering good code remains significantly more expensive than that. Writing code was always cheap to start with. Just outsource it to the l

I understood that support for ECC ram also depended on the motherboard but not sure. When selecting Ryzens, I only recall seeing many disclaimers for RAM support. Not sure to the causes though.

I have a silent hope that because of this change we all will get ECC ram and that consumer CPUs will get proper support for them.

Ah yes Idris rings a bell. I’ll try that one again. Scala 3 indeed is more mainstream but it seems also on the way out. At least here in corporate world it is replaced by Kotlin and Java 21+ for a large part.

Coming from Haskell, I loved Agda 2 as a dependent type language. Is there any newer or more mainstream language that has added dependent types?

You can run smaller models on smaller compute hardware and split the compute. For large models you need to be able to fit the whole model in memory to get any decent throughput.

So much this for consistency. I remember one particular bad occasion I went shopping for trousers in a store. I tried five, each had something wrong in relation with the size numbers. First didn’t fit because it was too tight, so I tried on

I have been hooked on Transport Fever for a while now. My only gripe with it is that civilian vehicles will take roads intended for cargo/public transport traffic only. So the most profitable way is to disconnect entire cities by road

Not all cars have active TPMS. my Volvo xc90 had them but in later models they switched back to passive ones. So it is not even a given for higher end models.

Just keeping my finger on the word works for me every time to select it. Double tap works only works in the edit fields. Also works reliable for me here in the hacker news post editor, as long as I do it in the middle of the word.

If we have syntax highlighting build into the TrueType font, can’t we also get sticky lines with the same mechanism? It would then only work with the right font obviously.

I think that is primarily due to the difference in assigned semantics of fast/speed. Yes macOS on Apple hardware is crazy fast in terms of io and throughput. And the cpu is amazing, and it’s unified memory model allows for great things
