No, I'm fairly certain I was in open mode the entire time I was implementing the system. It wasn't a single epiphany followed by many hours of implementing the ideas generated in that epiphany; it was a continuous stream of idea after idea,

In the context of software development, I think his idea that we should switch from open mode to closed mode when it's time to implement something is dead wrong. I today I gave a demo of something epic at work that I had developed exclusive

That time is ridiculously tiny compared to the rest of your workday The project I was working on a few months ago took 40 minutes to build on an i7 with 8 GB of RAM.

That Tchaikovsky recording was like fingernails on a chalkboard to me. I'm okay with the composition itself, but the recording was horribly distorted. I much prefer the electronic music, or this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQQGi4gN6gI

I think I'm going to go back to Snow Leopard tomorrow. I've been running Lion for many months now, and I still can't stand it. The only reason I'm sticking with OS X (rather than using Linux exclusively) is that I've purchased tons of price

As an engineer, when I hear "spec" I think of specifications. I initially thought "spec work" was referring to specifying requirements for a client. ;)

GAh! Information overload! Pop "ambient" music, animations, and shit to read; WTF kind of quiet place is this?! If you really want to take a break to reflect, go sit on a park bench outside with a pen and paper.

Apparently Texas, like Canada, considers software engineering a proper discipline of engineering, subject to the same regulations as other engineering disciplines: http://sce.uhcl.edu/helm/SWEBOK_IEEE/papers/10%20reprint%205...

There are many bugs I've spotted with alt-tab and alt-backtick; I'll try to compile a list of unit tests for you as soon as I have more spare time. Here's one to start: 1) Open 3 windows of the same application (e.g. Terminal). Make sure ea

I just tried building libalac.a on Linux using GCC 4.6.1 and it worked! There were quite a few warnings though. To eliminate the warnings, edit /trunk/codec/makefile and add -Wno-multichar to CFLAGS.

No, I can't; and I wasn't claiming that I can. However, as I stated, if I use an MP3 or AAC in a remix, then compress my remix using a lossy codec like AAC or MP3, the result will sound like crap. It's similar to working with JPEGs in Photo

I only buy lossless music. I usually end up buying WAV/AIFF/FLAC direct from the artist, from their record label, or from Beatport. Once in a while, if I can't find something, I'll buy it on CD. Earlier today, I actually bought vinyl becaus

I primarily used Gnome for the last 10 years, but now I prefer Unity. Why? Because I love the keyboard shortcuts, especially Alt-tilde. It's still fairly buggy (i.e. behavior is often inconsistent and non-deterministic), but no more so th

Regarding the new alt-tab behavior: check out alt-tilde. I love the combination of the two! It has a few bugs (e.g. try opening two terminals, then alt-tabbing... it doesn't switch applications), but it's definitely a step in the right di
