Personally, I think "cowboy coding" is the best derogatory name for this. IMO, what all of these ninjas have in common is that they don't realize that software development is a team exercise. Berkeley did a study on BSD and f

This is just going from version 1 to version 2. It's not like the new framework[1] that's replaced React. /s 1: https://github.com/developit/preact

Google does expect you to put in a lot of continuing effort to use their APIs as well. I suspect this is deeply engrained in their culture.

Or, you could spin this as ethical investing. Presumably, Thiel backed Hogan with an expectation of being compensated if Gawker lost the suit and had to pay damages. So, from an investment perspective, this was a good deal that paid off. It

I'm not using fastboot (just not worth going from rails to node in our use case) but if you have set that up, won't all of your users see a non-js website before they see your js website?

That is the greatest rebuttal of all time. There's no way I'm going to read that page so, instead, I'll just thank you for your diligence and be on my way.

I'd argue that there's a resurgence in non-JS web sites due to server-side rendering. React and Ember both support this really well at this point. So, you'll actually get a non-JS view of your SPA then progressively enhance t

I prefer mocha to qunit and I'm a fan of coffeescript (ES6 can wait. I love the existential operator). My company had made a few decisions before ember-cli that weren't on the Ember Happy Path. I've tried to stick to those de

This is why I like Ember: you get setup in 2 seconds. Sure, I don't like all of the decisions they've made in the framework but it does work really well out of the box. I think having a cli will become standard for JS frameworks.

The problem is working with fanboys who refuse to use the tools that you've spend a year or two investing in. When the people you work with throw away your projects every couple of months, there's nothing you can do to keep using

We started a brand new project in Ember (our second Ember project) in December; launched it in January. We've now started another project in Untangled because nobody wants to work in Ember anymore (apparently, it stopped being cool las

I think the difference is public vs private money. If we are in a bubble (which I'm not sure of but let's assume yes for the sake of argument) the investors that stand to loose their capital are all "qualified investors."

Maybe I've missed the meme that Ruby isn't fast enough but I've always found the ability to easily write my tight loops in C and compile it as a Ruby module to make Ruby a go to choice _for_ high performance.

I like Hillary because of HillaryCare. It's what we used to call ObamaCare when Hillary was laying the groundwork for the ACA. I also don't care what she says; I'm looking at her accomplishments.
