Do you know who made the original comparison? It seems like the context of the statement is the only way to groc the semantics.

Glad to see this is the top comment. Makes me believe hackernews is still a smart place.

Why would apple want to ban people from dropping the price of an app from $999 to $0.99? Are they just trying to make sure that people who buy at high prices don't feel bad about their purchases?

Is this news? I feel that Dimon has already accepted responsibility. He didn't dodge responsibility on the shareholder call that I listened to.

I've also talked with a LinkedIn "expert" who claimed that advertising LinkedIn events on LinkedIn had a much better conversion because you loose people when you go off site (i.e. from linkedin.com to yourdomain.com). By keeping people on t

I think this is a great idea. Like you mentioned, craigslist doesn't really do events. I just resqued a couple thousand comic books from my parent's basement and I think I'll try this out to see if I can off load them.

this is the point I came to make. LinkedIn's TOS specifically disallow apps that cut into their turf. These guys should be negotiating to get their codebase bought and their team acquired.

It's probably unenforceable for individuals but, what about the guy who starts a business buying broken iPods, fixing them, and reselling them? He would definitely be a target.

How is this possible? From my reading of the article, the suspension of first-sale only applies to goods manufactured abroad. Wouldn't MS software be manufactured in Washington state?

As a - former - landlord, I can tell you that I was interested in much more than just credit scores. I wanted to have stable, long term tenants in my units. I also wanted responsible people who would tell me if there was a drip so that I co

My doctor thinks I have high blood pressure because things like this really get under my skin. I - like Stalman - have a bad habit of arguing with the admitting nurse over stuff like this.

Man, now I feel like a total hack. I love the github pull request. I do insist that my devs use a good style (i.e. first line is a summary and wrap at 80 chars) but I love the user interface for looking at diffs and doing a code review. I h

but, why wait until the last minutes? when I cheat ... I mean, if I were going to cheat, I'd want to make it look good. So, I would spread the votes out over a longer period.

Please, don't do this. You don't need partners just to check off a box for yc. You should only partner with people that kick ass and who think you kick ass. Take as long as you need and don't worry about your yc application being incomplete

It's too bad you couldn't openly tell your team how you were scheduling your time. It sounds like you developed a very good, consistent process. In my mind, that's exactly what a large company should be going for because it can scale.

Here's my problem with people who put in 80 hours a week: they don't write good code. At my first job - way back in the last millenium - we were creating a carrier class network device. I was hired to run the mail servers but ended up build

Forget Fabrice Tourre, how about John Corzine? The government isn't even going to use the law _that he created_ to go after him for stealing client money.

Lots of companies have claw-back clauses where they buy the options back from you if you leave before they've vested. Or, in my case, the company was sold and the common stock (I bought the shares not options) was worthless.

Wait. Why would you do this? Can't you hold your options as, well, options until you want to exercise and sell them? I don't get why you would convert options to stock unless you wanted to sell them right away. I'm sure I'm missing somethin

Yeah. I like the look of the Vaio line a lot but I really want a machine that will run linux well. Ubuntu seems like it would be the best distro for a vendor to partner with.

That sucks. Is the T510 a 64 bit system? I don't think Linux is quite there on 64bit (although I haven't tried it myself yet).

This is just what I was looking for. I was thinking about building an alienware laptop and duel booting to Ubuntu. My big issue was I didn't know where the problems were going to come in. Thanks!

Cash is king. You can demand more equity and priority in the debt stack ordering when you write checks. Life's not fair but whining over how you're getting screwed won't help you realize the opportunities that are available to you.

FYI - the most incompetent engineer I've ever worked with went to MIT. Plus, college is about a lot more than learning technical skills. One of the very true things about life is that they guys who make A's in college make good professors.

Zappos started as a website with pictures of shoes and a price. When someone would order, they would go down to Footlocker, buy the shoes, and ship them off.

At first blush, I'd say you have a very serious problem that you're trying to solve. That's always a good place for a startup to begin. In this one example, millions of dollars were lost and one founder did time in jail and is hundreds of t
