That's business as usual actually. I don't know wth you are doing with your machines but Windows is crazy stable. Much more than my mac at work. And linux... like... nevermind...

This refactoring is so simple and obvious I don't even understand why some people don't write like this by default. I've had colleagues comment my PR on my "failed validation, return early" code saying "we gene

I mostly agree with you except: > that class should be doing the validation, not the Rectangle class itself. I partially disagree. You should have a layer after which all (request) parameters are surely and clearly validated. This avoids

> making code overly DRY and wrong abstractions coupling unrelated parts of the system unnecessarily I would say that's just bad engineering due to lack of insight or experience. DRY is the most simple and most dangerous principle (

The problem with a struct-like construct is that it doesn't have any way of guaranteeing some data is present and valid or not. I'm thinking about C++-like structs or python maps. An object representing a dumb data structure can b

Why use actual objects and rely on static anlysis when you can write tens of unit tests that ensure the maps/tuples passed around always contain the correct data structures? And you get the added benefit of 100% test coverage.

Getters/setters vs public properties has nothing to do with encapsulation. Obviously not all properties are public/have getters and setters.

I mean, in software engineering we try to avoid unnecessary dependencies right? This is exactly what's happening, why would those clocks ever depend on the power grid?? EDIT: Nevermind, sounds like there are precision concerns that jus

That's also why state machines are common in GUI frameworks, as noted by a sibling comment above.

You have never written a spec have you? Not only is the 5% important, as every "only 5% left" tends to be, you are completely ignoring possible developer questions.
