Messages have serious delays (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) through SMS gateways. There's also rate limiting. That limits their usefulness.

I'm sure there are piss-poor drivers that don't sing along and really good drivers that do. They should drop all the restrictions on 'distracting' activity and just fire poor drivers rather than trying to make poor drive

This is the real reason there's an SSO tax. It costs to support SSO, the customers who want SSO should pay for that cost.

Modern cartridges are pretty well shielded from static electricity. I can't imagine a static spark could get inside the chamber AND inside the cartridge.
