It's much cooler now, but access is more restricted. I think you can still get tours if you arrange ahead of time http://www.ncsa.illinois.edu/AboutUs/tour.html . If you do, if you look really hard in the far corner of the room you migh

Certainly there's some post-processing going on on the Kinect; whether it's via CPU, ASIC, DSP, or FPGA I have no idea. I'd imagine there's some signed code image that is factory-installed to some Flash or EEPROM on the Kinect; it's probab

Am I misunderstanding or does his "tracing" stop at the basic block level? While basic blocks are completely predictable traces through the program, they are usually very short. You can get much more benefit by finding long common traces

Can you just have multiple lines for Nth percentile and/or min and max, rather than candlesticks? You'd want to bold or otherwise emphasize the mean or median line, I think, but it shouldn't be too hard to read, since the lines shouldn't c

This is addressed at the bottom of the linked page: What does it cost? Groupon Store: There's no upfront cost. For promoted deals you get 70% of each Groupon sold. For non-promoted deals you get 90% of each Groupon. Deal of the Day

Do you suspect the bug to be in clang (the front-end) itself, or in LLVM's optimizer or back-end? For the latter cases, bugpoint is included in the LLVM source tree and does a good job of narrowing things down, so long as you provide a pro

Granted. This is a much more reasonable response to the top of this thread than sanctimonious quoting. See also scottyallen's comment here ( http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1817378 ). If Google web search has (or recently had) such a

Obviously this doesn't even begin to explain it, but the realtime/quality-of-service requirements of voice are much more rigid, so it makes sense that voice would cost the carrier more per-bit than data. But still...

From the experiences of people I know, it helps if your startup is either capital-intensive (think building a chip) or is solving a really hard technical problem (think Google, DNA sequencing, or auto-parallelizing compilers). In those cas

Doubtful; more likely analog circuits, in my opinion. Memristors just haven't been used to build anything substantial in reality yet, and I'd imagine the first people to do so will be at HP or similar rather than a startup.
