I'm explicitly talking about the people getting VA disability for things they're making up or exaggerating. I think I was very clear about that. I am a combat veteran, and I think it's ridiculous that the guy who was such a

Not unlikely. My alternate hypothesis is disability compensation inflation. There is a LOT of this in the military. 100% VA disability is ~$4,000/mo (increasing every year) for the rest of your life. That is more than a typical enl

No, I'm referring to the phenomenon that I guess most people are referring to as 'science vs "The Science"'. Science being the pursuit of knowledge through experimentation and peer review. "The Science" b

Yeah that's the "something else". The scientific establishment has garnered quite a bit of credibility, resulting in society giving it more power. But now people who are only interested in the power are seeking to have thei

Does it, though? On the level that you would write a prescription for it like a drug? Taking medicine doesn't rely on your aesthetic taste, judgement, education, etc. It just performs its chemical imperative. Things like this seem t

You're allowed to complain in the military. There are extensive internal bureaucracies just to accommodate complaints. EO, SHARP/SAPR, IG, command climate surveys, congressional inquiries, open door policies (mandatory), sensing

Agree. I think the praise here is coming from the fringe "very online" demographic that are wrecking the media and entertainment environment. Few people read Deadspin. Few people read Defector. Few people watch SportCenter anymo

We have voice modulators on the newer CBRN masks. Tiny mike plugs into the inside, speaker plugs on the outside.

Bluetooth is a good idea, but you need to be wary of the emissions you're relying on for critical comms. If you have a whole formation using a piece of the spectrum, that piece of the spectrum is now a target.

I should have added that to my post - throat mikes are very uncomfortable. The band would also grab stubble so sometimes when I would turn my head I would get a nice sting as it tugged on a hair.

We had them in the military and we preferred the boom mics. Throat mics, the exact ones pictured, did not pick up low-talking or whispering, which is a large amount of pre-contact traffic. The new thing the DOD has spent an UNGODLY amount

Some people genuinely believe in these things. I met a lot of lefty weirdos at house parties in California who would explain these ideas to me with nothing but love, even though they knew I did not agree. But we still drank and ate togethe

I'm going to disagee (kind of) - Reddit mods aren't woke. I think that reddit mods used the woke moment as a casus belli to consolidate power on the platform. The same thing is going on right now politically and culturally in the

Related question - why is wiping out spam by catching spammers and scam callers not a high priority in the federal cyber mission? These things are so obnoxious and damaging to commerce.

There are an endless number of causes one could "black out" for. But they just so happened to black out for the one with a pressure campaign and mob backing, that has intertwined itself with American national political ambitions?
