To be clear, I'd be fine with a shared office situation with up to 3~4 office mates. But the open offices as discussed here are abominations. Maybe it does seem anti-social of me? I guess I didn't consider that aspect of it. It

That's pretty much in line with my thinking. I want them to at least consider the fact that they agreed to something else that's in writing when they do office re-arrangements. And if they decide that I'm no longer worth an

Twice in my life I've been given an office upon joining a company later to be relocated to an open office, which I hate. After the second relocation, I thought that the next job I take I will try to negotiate upfront for an office in

If you are accepting stock options for part of your compensation (and you actually care about what the value of those might be), it's important. Otherwise, no.

I'm not so sure about that. Hire time on a botnet so you have lots of IPs and start trying mixed usernames with mixed passwords. You won't have any choice over which username you eventually break in with, but I don't think

I don't think the analogy to email quite works. Telecom companies currently charge money to customers based on usage.

Am I being a pedant if I think this algorithm has been misnamed for the purposes of PR? It just looks like constraint satisfaction. What's quantum about this? There's no constructive/destructive interference, which to my m

You are not entitled to Slack's infrastructure, no matter how much you came to depend on it for your day-to-day life.

You share (about) 1/128 of your genes with a third cousin. The chance of any (particular) recessive trait being passed on from both parents as a result of the inbreeding is a whopping 1 in 65,536.

There’s nothing more “me” than my brain. I expect sufficiently advanced science to be able to narrow down my identity from a detailed enough scan of my brain. Whether this can be done today is a question of technology, and I’m not abreast

Is it possible to use a firewall (pfsense or similar) to block all access to the Windows update and telemetry servers? Or will Windows just stop working after thinking it’s offline long enough?

I realize it's not a great option for lots of people, but the optimal solution is to choose a phone number with an area code far away from where you will ever have any legitimate contacts, and block everything from that area code.

I'm pretty sure this is exactly Valve's planned impact. Like everybody else who builds atop another's platform, I think they're nervous that Microsoft could decimate their business on a whim.
