To answer the question: no. OpenStreetMap is constantly evolving in many dimensions. A fully fledged editor requires a significant investment to remain current (think at least one FTE).

It isn't a big business by many orders of magnitude. The only businesses that over the years have been able to offer tile hosting as a sustainable business are very small mum and pop shops. The large players are naturally not intereste

Except that both MS (Bing) and Apple use OSM. Not all over the place and not for all purposes, but they do and it isn't a secret.

See https://github.com/PlazaRoute for a preprocessing solution that is routing engine agnostic.

OK, this is going to be longish. While OSM is similar to Wikipedia in many aspects, it is very different in others. In particular while both movements have a supporting formal body, in the case of Wikipedia the WMF, for OSM the OSMF, that r

Even that is not really comparable. The WMF does not actually have any members, and only has a superficial pseudo democratic shim (if that is good or bad is a different discussion though). The "alarm" is caused because concerted a

Nice demo, but it would be even nicer if you could get the blooper fixed: "Mapbox's Openstreetmap" MapBox is an active and respected participant in the OpenStreetMap project and uses our data in some of its products, but that

There are multiple commercial providers of services based on OpenStreetMap data, see for example: https://switch2osm.org/providers/ Further there are multiple on device routing and rendering solutions available so you

Except, naturally, that openstreetmap.org is mainly aimed at OSM contributors, which typically are actually changing the data and by that invalidating the tiles created for our standard style (which update in minutes). See: https:/&#x

Having buildings is definitely not a prerequisite for mapping addresses (when I go mapping I will typically and them before too, but again that is only a minor amount of time compared to actually gathering the data). Mass mapping buildings

The fallacy in the concept we're discussing here is assuming that OpenStreetMap is being held back by the speed with which we can add infrastructure geometry (I'm specifically excluding mass doodling of buildings as that is a topi

There are plenty of QA tools available including such which show data that is stale. It is true that very large multi-polygons can be hard to edit however they tend to be exclusively used for modelling large landuse areas and administrative

I would suggest help.openstreetmap.org or one of the itc channels http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/IRC for support. The in-browser editor iD is really easy to use, however currently does not work with IE.

As to adding addresses/doors: simply do it on location with Go Map! (iOS) or Vespucci (Android), real easy particularly if you added building outlines before or they are already there. Mapillary (mapillary.com) offers StreetView simila
