Serious question: Why instead of dispersant (another chemical contaminant) did we not disperse large quantities of lab-grown oil digesting bacteria?

Yes, but at least "favorites" were somewhat more neutral. They still prevented me from "favoriting" negative news, as it felt like an endorsement. Hearts work well for things like family photos and cats--the traditional

Twitter lost the plot. Oh look, riots in Istabul. Four people injured. I guess I'd better heart that one. Because I love violence... What is the storyline here? Many people use Twitter for live coverage of events, to organize protests,

I strongly disagree with the author's position. I think it betrays bias in favor of computer science as opposed to software engineering. The stereotypical computer scientist operates in a an abstracted world. The physical limitations o

I think the article makes two distinct and contradicting points. On the one hand, Twitter is home to cliques. These seem to be closely knit communities that amplify each other's voices (like activists, gamers, feminists, and academics)

I think the discussion on Uber often misses the point. Uber is not disrupting the Taxi business. Look at the endgame: in most unregulated markets Uber simply becomes another hail and route management app for an existing taxi fleet. Uber is

This seems like a pretty terrible idea. As a driver, it is almost impossible for me to understand the complex implementation details of a "partial" autopilot. The car will stop in this situation, but not in this. It reads this kin

I have been using IRC on and off since the nineties. In the past few years, I usually enter a channel, ask a question, wait to make sure no one answers (nobody does), then move on to stack exchange or reddit to actually get some interaction

In strong agreement with task_queue here. The taxi industry is legislated on the city level. Uber is poised to become an international actor, with larger gross revenues than the GDP of many small countries (projected $10bil in 2015).

1. NYC taxi cabs are actually pretty clean. Most have AC. Most are only a few years old. You can pass on the hail if you don't like the vehicle. 2. Today Uber has clean, nice smelling cars because it is new. Let's talk after Uber

I think the author misses the point. As far as I see it, Unix tools are optimized for one thing: the human user. If `ls` is bloated, it is only bloated from the system point of view. As a user, I only see a small command that is quick and c
