Yelp does not just want to make scraping impossible, they seem to also be interested in making it harder for humans to view filtered reviews.

The German version allows you to send packages by putting them into an empty box in the Packstation. Same for the Austrian version. Deutsche Post also maintains so-called "Paketbox"es, which are only for sending stuff. The Österreichische P

Something similar has been around in Germany for 10 years now. The boxes there are not owned by Amazon, but by the Deutsche Post AG.[0] This allows competitors to use them as well. 0: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Packstation

This is what annoys me the most about the whole "Killerspiele" debate. I played Counter Strike a lot, and yet pretty much everything I thought I knew about firearms from that game turned out to be completely wrong. How did I find out? I was

It this a custom-made hook or are you using ikiwki? I use exactly the same setup with ikiwiki and yours sounds so familiar.

I am not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, given that um3shg gets downvoted for saying "+1" while MatthewPhillips gets upvoted for doing the same, just with more text.

Yes, I confirmed it by transfering the data to a VPS hosted at Freemont (just as slow) and by transfering data from another host (that thankfully did not route via HE) to the Internet Archive. The Internet Archive can be a bit slow sometime

Wow, thanks for the detailed answer. I remembered from the time that I was using prgmr that you were moving to Coresite, but I must have gotten the details mixed up. My problem with he.net is not about their peerings. They have a large numb

Hurricane Electric is a horrible ISP. They offer bandwidth at very cheap prices but their hardware and connectivity is shit. The only reason why so many companies use HE is because they are up to 9 times cheaper than other ISPs. They got mo

Because as soon as a new player wants to connect a town with fiber (or the town decides to lay fiber on it's own) suddenly the big telcos are very interested in also laying fiber in that town, ruining any chance of profitability. There are

You are mixing two different terms here: The blockchain is a list of transactions that are linked to each other using cryptographic functions. Each block in the chain links to it's parent block. The genesis block is the first block created,

From what I have heard, ksplice is pretty popular with VPS (virtual private server) providers. When there is an exploitable bug, they have to announce the planned upgrade to their customers and wait for a few days until they can run the upg

Domain registrations are always $8.99/year at NFSN. Whois privacy costs $0.01/day, but you get a 20% rebate if you prepay it. DNS costs $0.01/day for each domain not registered with them and $0.01/(3 days) for every domain registered with t

That is because they use a prepaid model instead of charging you after the registration. Just keep a couple bucks in your account and you can register domains even when you don't have a credit card handy.

I don't think you understood the article. It is not about the physical restrictions and trade-offs of mobile broadband. It is about the inefficiency of TCP on such connections. Current TCP implementations are optimized for wired networks wh

I have been asked in the past how this is different from 301Works. Let me explain: After tr.im shut down, everyone was suddenly worried about link rot caused by URL shorteners, so bit.ly and others founded 301Works, a backup provider for UR

Event A: Manned Moon landing Event B: Unmanned probe landing on the moon and returing soil samples Event A is rare and happened 6 times (Apollo 11, 12, 14, 15, 16, 17), event B happened 3 times. Thus event B is even rarer(?) than event A. I

Your comment incorrectly states that Luna 1 to Luna 15 crashed into the Moon. Luna 16 was not the first to successfully soft land and not all crashes were accidents. Only 6 of the 14 Luna missions intended to soft-land on the moon actually

Unfortunately that is not bit.ly uploading any data. It is the effort of a few people (me included) that scrapes bit.ly and uploads it to archive.org. Despite claiming otherwise, bit.ly hasn't uploaded a single short url to 301Works yet.

If you actually visit 301works.org you will notice that there are a whopping _seven_ URL shorteners that have uploaded any data at all in the past 6 months: - rn.tl / lensrentals.com - nbl.gs - qr.cx - tiny.cc - urlcut.com - url.ie - va.mu
