Oh, okay. Folks, most of usaphp's friends are buying bluetooth headphones. We can all stop worrying and complaining about this—disregard the large portion of the population that isn't or doesn't have them.

Learned this the hard way. I spend a lot of hours learning stuff in a bad way—I end up not mastering anything!

Might be one of those things that is popular mostly on the coasts. Here in NYC I spent little to no time jobless after I learned Node. Not sure how it is elsewhere.

Honestly this might sound rude but a lot of written tutorials/blog posts in JS are made by people with good intentions but not a lot of experience or expertise, so they end up hand-waving a lot or just not explaining things right. The

From the reply to my sibling post and yours, I stand corrected. It seems IRC is big with older languages like C and related (as in, a similar domain) ones like Rust[1]. JavaScript and new, web related languages like Elm are more likely to u

Everywhere as in...? IRC isn't going anywhere for sure, I use it (prefer it to Slack), but its usage has diminished greatly to very niche groups such as anime subtitling communities and programming languages/techs. Of the latter,

How dare anybody have fun and explore new things! Everything should be done the right way with no exploration or messing around with stuff for fun.

As imgabe said, a lot of older families (both in age and amount of time living in Manhattan), at least in the Upper West Side, have rent control, are in low income housing, or something similar. If you ever walk around the Upper West Side,

Ironically it exists in compile-to-JS languages. I think ClojureScript uses Closure (naming accident), but the PureScript compiler does dead-code analysis and removal. Elm doesn't yet, but it's on the roadmap and partially finishe

Considering the React community has settled on Webpack and from what I hear so has Angular 2, I think it's here to stay for a while.

There's no shortage of Webpack tutorials, and this one looks fine so props to the author. However, the best Webpack tutorial I've seen for beginners (and experts!) is this video that explains it from a conceptual point of view[1

This is a good point. Many of us learn a new language or tool as a hobby after work. Why not consider math like that?

Do they really retire early though? I always hear people in forums saying how they'll save up and not have kids to retire by 40 but never meet anyone that has done that. I really doubt most programmers that don't go into managemen

Reminds me of teens/early 20s who say they won't marry and/or have kids and save up to retire before 40... wonder how many don't end up with a kid and a mortgage by then.
