This attitude happens all the time FP in the job comes up and it essentially means the parent commenter's company has no time or resources for training or mentoring. NoRedInk (among other companies) use non-mainstream FP languages and

On the other hand, most jobs and companies don't warrant being caring about aside from the salary and resume padding (hence the trend of leaving a job every other year).

We have an ejected CRA web pack confit that I wanna update to 2 eventually. What's a good migration guide?

Ember should be used more often. It saves a ton of time with large apps and has really neat plugins like FastBoot. It's underrated.

This is the important list. I don't care about ES2015 or more—we'll always use Babel. I care about Service Workers and WebRTC more.

This happens to me a lot with programming, where the (maybe poor) analogy is scales being "fundamentals" and songs being "cool apps/libraries". I tend to skip to building cool apps and when the easy parts are done I

Right, which is why I like Lobsters. The pace of Lainchan though is a bit too slow, even when I try to post. It's not that the content is bad, it's just that there's so little of it I eventually forget to check the site.

I have to agree. The Changelog is the best general tech podcast out there. Hosts are good, guests are good, audio quality is good (even when the guests are using Apple earbud mics), and their site is super fast. I was really sad when I ran

This is what I'm thinking. I'm also getting tired of web dev already... and I'm only 22. I spend part of my free time learning math, distributed systems, and other subjects in hopes of moving to another area one day.

Is HN and the Twitter/Medium/blog spehere different? We get devs with 0-3 years experience and no desire to look into past art writing with an authoritative tone all the time.

> Lainchan is pretty good but also glacially slow. Many threads stay open for years. No kidding. There are still threads from when I first found the site (2014).

My experiences with the subreddit have been negative. For some reason, most comments are very negative and bitter for no good reason.

It's not impossible. I went from a hourly checker to only checking it twice a week. You just need to practice self control and realize most tech news aren't interesting or useful to know.

I agree that it's really easy to find time for reading. For us in tech, just replace your HN/Reddit time with reading and you'll be surprised how much you can read!

You're giving Node devs too much credit. Most Node devs know nothing beyond `fs` and `express`. For some strange reason they refuse to learn about the standard library beyond the very basics.

I've noticed that Grace Hopper and sometimes Ada Lovelace are the only women in computing people ever talk about. I'm glad I got to know about Margaret Hamilton, but this is the first time I've heard of her at all. There'
