Are you the same person as http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2505144 and http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2506130 by any chance? Both of those refer to a post where the user "defended PHP as a language where it was being bashed," a

Your original comment is being downvoted because it doesn't explain why the comment it says to be unhelpful is (or at least that's my best guess; I obviously don't know the intent of every downvoter). HN tends to frown on comments which add

Viruses are generally not considered to be alive, so they're not an especially good example. On the other hand, if you print the code used to generate these creatures on them (or give them some way to communicate it), and build a scanner so

Not really. All it says is that depending on your niche, you get a different mixture of browsers - and a single sample doesn't even say that well; I would rather see a comparison sites in a lot of different niches to make that point.

Are they really saying that it's intellectual property theft? Not copyright infringement? If so, they're probably bullshitting you. Anyways, keep the domain and talk to a lawyer of your own. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer.

I believe that it is at 500 karma now, though it might be higher. It's occasionally adjusted to counteract inflation.

You email PG and ask him politely to delete them (there's no way to do so built into HN - though comments/submissions can be deleted or modified for an hour after being posted). However, I've never heard how well that works. Given that some

Replacing a broken system with an even more broken system is not an improvement.

Linux ISOs are always the example people come up with when they're defending protocols and methods which are primarily used for illegal purposes. The original post for DropShip gave, as an example, the trailer for a movie. Not the movie its

Give it some time. Releasing them gradually also allows for more time for the media to pick up on it, which is good from their point of view - as opposed to a concentrated release, which would get much less attention.

> Pros: Expensive storage cost (Google offers 20GB for $5/yr) Somehow I feel like this article could use a tiny bit of editing, as expensive storage feels more like a disadvantage than an advantage.

Huh. I always thought that metric units of mass were defined by the mass of a mole of whatever atom you were interested in: a mole of carbon masses exactly 12 grams, a mole of oxygen masses 16 grams, a mole of hydrogen masses 1 gram. EDIT:

There's a processing library for getting information from it[1], so there's certainly the possibility of using the sensor to automatically adjust the theme. I would try to write something to do that myself, but I don't have a Mac. [1] http

This is a really good idea, but it seems somewhat unlikely to happen in the USA - not least because of how valuable that information is. It's not just something that's used by individual companies, it's something that they can trade and sel

Because there's nothing in the guidelines about the civility of submissions, and I'm more concerned with improving the quality of comments than in reducing the number of articles which sink without a trace. (This is, incidentally, my last r

Yes, I did read your entire comment. I'm not disagreeing with your points, or trying to dismiss them, I'm saying that the way you lead into them detracts from them, and is uncivil.

Storing unencrypted file hashes is the easiest way I can see to do it; then, for deduplication, the file is decrypted using one user's key, and a copy is made and encrypted under the second user's key.

You may want to look at the guidelines again. The relevant one in this case is "When disagreeing, please reply to the argument instead of calling names. E.g. "That is an idiotic thing to say; 1 + 1 is 2, not 3" can be shortened to "1 + 1 is

There don't appear to be any DDG haters in the threads on this article. There are two people who seem to hate (or at least dislike) Stephen Wolfram, though. (Disclaimers: I have showdead on, this is accurate as of 9:31 PM, GMT).

Downvotes probably due to people thinking that your comment adds nothing to the conversation, not necessarily disagreeing with you (I would think that the pic would be cooler if it were higher res; as it is, I can't make much sense of it).
