When you say “switched on a lightbulb” is that figurative? Or did bright light somehow make your condition apparent? Sorry if I’m being daft here.

Is drunk driving without running anyone over that particular night victimless? I agree with your sentiment generally, but I think the details get tricky.

My guess is that we need a sweeping, emotion-fill, romantic story toward something else, not just away from the current diamond-status quo. There certainly is a quiet satisfaction, and clear conscience, in avoidance of evil. But no joy

I’ve tried that approach of moving users to a “deleted_users” table but ran into the problem of losing the foreign key references to any records pointing at the user.

The jokes things is something I realized too. Not because I ever tell off-color jokes, but because I realized certain people felt compelled to laugh. And others would then quietly roll their eyes, not at me, but at the exaggerated reactions

That drives me bananas too. I had some minor luck by positively calling out people who did provide great details. I’d send a message out to a wider group copying the original request, pointing out what was so good and saying how much time

I don’t actually know. And I was about to joke, but on second thought bet it is actually true, that at the end of the chain, all the money is in actually selling ED pills, hair-loss treatments, and porn.

I am clearly missing something, but at that point, why not just allow the client (presumably a web app running in a browser in most cases) to just make requests via SQL? You would of course want to add authentication/authorization laye

I may be in the minority, but at my last job I had some pretty great project managers that had us using Jira in a way that was simple and helpful. I think part of that was they had experience and political capital. So they chose to use only

I agree with you, especially about McCandless. But I ask myself, where is the line? What level of risk stops being rude?

Does this mean that distinct, non-flying species of dinosaur independently evolved to be able to fly? Or does it mean that one species of dinosaur evolved to have the ability to fly, and then further branched into all know species of birds?

There must be some formal and rigorous way to argue against such crazy complex plans. Because I've seen my share as well, almost universally disastrous. Perhaps they are optimizing for the "best possible" outcome rather than

I'm not high up the ladder, but like many others here, I am a boss myself. I don't think all of us have such terrible motives. I know my boss doesn't. And yes, we also were in an open office before all being sent home. Thou

I write code for many projects. I vastly prefer those that forbid my access to the production instance. So much less stress.

I taught in Boston for five years. Something that almost no one outside the profession seems to understand is that a teacher's number one function is to inspire students to work . For the vast majority of students, that requires physi

I have used that pattern in my apps and found it works well. But then I've watched video from respected DB experts, that I learn a great deal from, where they practically beg you to stop using nullable columns. So I'm torn, becaus

I freelanced for a few months for a local high-end cabinet maker. I helped them integrate their online ordering system with the automated fabrication equipment. It was, by far the most I have ever enjoyed programming. Coordinating with su

By this logic we are speculating that perhaps being blind from birth blocks the symptoms of schizophrenia to the point that it is no longer a "disease". I don't know if this is correct, but a compelling idea.

I hear you on tech debt, but in my conception, it is just one portion of "long term cost multiplier". Because even a perfectly coded and tested feature adds weight to a system and slows future development.
