Many unsolved problems in mathematics are ones that are not easily understood by a lay person. The Collatz conjecture has captured hearts and minds at least in part because it is easy to understand the statement of. Perhaps proving that pi

Sure, if you blow away the entire app on every state change. But that would lose not only state defined in components (like `i` in ClickMe) but also all state implicitly stored in DOM elements (selection, focus, scroll position, input value

These examples are cool but I think it’s important to note that none of them show components whose props can change over time, since that ability doesn’t seem to be modeled at all. Clever if you don’t need that but I’m having trouble seeing

In the DOM, comment nodes are not elements, they're their own type of node altogether. Their .nodeName is `#comment`, for what it's worth.

I don't know about that, I worked on the React team full-time for several years and just got to 86 before getting tired and stopping. I imagine most of my former colleagues also know more than 1.

Google Docs is designed to not let you run arbitrary JS in a trusted (i.e. google.com origin) context, or else the author of any doc you visit could act as you on Google properties.

If you mean can another domain trick Chrome into letting it access those APIs… probably not; it seems it’s based on the browser extension architecture which is already somewhat hardened and I believe doesn’t even load the code for the exten

At least when I worked there, protecting against reverse engineering was never a goal. Cert pinning is to make it harder for an adversary to tamper, not to make it harder for the user to.

The title of this submission (“Platformer announces it’s leaving Substack”) isn’t an accurate characterization. In the linked article, behind the paywall, Casey Newton writes: > It is our hope that Substack will reverse course and remove

If you’re looking for something that is hosted for you, at Notion we launched a feature for this a few weeks ago and it works quite well in my experience. RAG is one of the techniques used. https://www.notion.so/blog/in

I assume to take compounding into account, you want the 12th root. Instead of 12% → 1%, 1.12^(1/12) gives around 0.95%.

The factors of 12 are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 12. The prime factors of 12 are 2, 3.

In most cases, you don’t want to treat server and client code the same from the perspective of I/O since the performance characteristics are dramatically different.

Meta Q3 ’23 ARPU for Europe was $19.04 per quarter. (Or $56.11 in US and Canada!) Factoring that people willing to pay probably skew wealthier probably skew more profitable, $10 seems about right.

One clarification: client and server code are never mixed within the same file. "use server" can only be used in server files and marks code that the client can call back into.
