It is a hat. Chugging a bottle of liquor has way more harm potential.

McDonalds has gotten so expensive. a mcdouble that was literally $1.50-$2 2-3 years ago is at least $4 now. Unless you game coupons you’re spending a similar amount to dine in restaurants in my experience.

Yeah, if there’s a way to discriminate AI from human writing that could also be used to train a better AI and become indistinguishable again.

I support all your action items but based on your preamble I was expecting something more along the lines of political engagement/activism.

Not so sure about that. Wendy's drivethrough chatbot is programmed to upsell. Even the base GPT is heavily tuned to cater to a corporate audience.

I don’t know why reading ‘it were stones’ made me chuckle as much as it did.

Have you played with ChatGPT or GitHub copilot? 5 years ago, I'd agree with you, but nowadays, 'cherry picked wins' happen far more often than not in my experience.

It’s quite simple. If you’re doing something niche (ie, it would be difficult to find similar examples online), and deals with highly critical code, it’s probably worthwhile to write it yourself, since there’s a high risk for it to produce

Psychologists, the least scientific form of scientists, use the term ‘disorder’ far too liberally if you ask me. The term has implications for how people view others with these diagnosis and how those people view themselves. The term is bor

I recently (last 6 months) went into tech away from my home town. (not too far; US town to different US town) I’ve found life to be good here, but I can’t help but think I had it made in my home town: in terms of family (father recently got

There’s a notion that AI isn’t ‘creative’; it doesn’t ‘have a soul’; that it ‘just imitates’, as if we are uniquely capable of being creative. Yet, it seems increasingly clear to many of us ‘AI bros’ that this isn’t true. For now, I largely

Real neurons are far slower (interaction is chemical vs electrical) and far less precise ( iirc something comparable to 4 - 7x less precise than 32bit float) than physical neurons.

Based on the diagram this does matmul like a resistive crossbar array (something like https://arxiv.org/pdf/1410.2031.pdf ). Talked about this in a ‘neuroprocessor’ class I took at uni. It’s practically ‘free’ since you

I don’t follow this comparison. Seems like DDoS protection is a defensive measure.

I feel like this should be the end of the discussion. A crime against a criminal is still a crime. Furthermore, who decides who the ‘criminal’ is? A ‘tit for tat’ policy may leave progressive activists and whistleblowers vulnerable to DDoS.

There’s a chance podcasts aren’t for you. After listening to a couple briefly, I found I’m not interested in them. Subjecting myself to an oration from a single point of view, without comments feels like brainwashing to me, or at least very

I disagree. The moral responsibility really rests on the person who uses the tool. For instance, I once cheated by using gcc/godbolt to generate assembly output for a class from C code. By this logic, Richard Stallman should be blamed

IMO, this would be a bad outcome for all parties involved. The jobs being replaced are highly tedious, ie, fold the box, put the thing in the box, repeat for next 8 hrs. Those displaced would likely find better jobs.
