Yes - this is clearly a bad idea that fails the common sense test. But it will add more assets, higher value, etc. And another reason they may get bought

My quick advice would be to: 1) As tempting as it is, DO NOT refactor the code right now. Do the minimal amount of work needed to complete the task. 2) Start etching out some time with your manager/tech-lead to start writing unit tests

It's all fun and games, until you have to access parent elements. You'll likely start wrapping these methods, and before you know it, you have jQuery-micro.

I once scoffed at microservices. Then I was tasked with building a scalable platform around a message broker system. Then the switch clicked. I get it now.

IANAL: but with nothing signed, it's you're code I believe, since it's your original work. I suggest looking into copyright law. (This is why contractors must/usually sign "work for hire" clauses, proclaiming t

Agreed. I'd only promote something I truly liked or "believed" in, and even then it's risky - the establishment, recipe or product can change on a dime, and then you're image and promotion is still tied to it.

Their hunger is gone. Growing complacency. They're likely more focused on shareholders and stock-price than anything else. (At least the decision makers, not the individual workers doing the work)

This is a good way to start a consulting business as well. Do it all as side work, wait for that bigger client/contract, and then do your own thing.

This is getting down-voted, but there's some truth here. I didn't adopt .NET Core until v2, and happy I waited. Much stronger support from MSFT now, and a much more stable framework.

It's only unstable if you drink the JavaScript cool-aid, and change frameworks frequently. I've been using Knockout 3.* for the past five years, no issue here. Edit: Looks like some Angular and React devs have started downvoting :

Obviously I'm being facetious. But there is a hilarity of, on one hand being privacy centric, and with the other hand, planting a listening device in ones home.

Pays Amazon for a listening device and installs in home...gets upset when it listens.

Thanks for this - kind of neat to have a community "hacking" channel. Seems to be mainly downtempo-ish, which is great.

They don't value you, and they're making it clear. Asking for you guys to take no pay is downright disrespectful, especially for experienced founders. Consider other sources for funding.

Absolutely - I spent way too long finding postgres tool, and even then, it was just okay. Also, so many big players use proven MySQL setups (Uber, Github, etc), that I feel like the scalability is there if needed.

For what it's worth, I was in this same situation. Without getting overly technical, MySQL's ease of use, wide supported drivers and toolsets, along with it's ubiquitous nature made me choose MySQL. Also, almost everyone know
