Racket can compile a racket source file to platform independent bytecode (stored as zo-files). When the bytecode is run, it isn't interpreted, but a just-in-time compiler kicks in, generates machine code, and the code is run. As far as

I hope you have filed a bug report? (Also - did you use the official version from download.racket-lang.org ?)

Note that there is a new implementation of Hendersons's picture language. Color images is just one of the new features. Save this file. Open it. Either add your own code at the bottom or use require to use it from another file. https:

Just a quick note to inform you that Racket now uses a new model for macro expansion. It is based on sets of scopes rather than the mark model used in syntax-case. http://www.cs.utah.edu/plt/scope-sets/ The

The Ragg tutorial uses Brainfuck as an example of how to use "compile a language by macros". The grammar of the input language is specified as BNF and the output is a syntax object representing Racket forms. Syntax objects are nor

Scheme has historically been used as a research vehicle for macros. When the fifth revised specification of Scheme (known as R5RS) was written there were no consensus on the best practices for writing a system supporting unhygienic macros.

It should support all of JavaScript. If you find a construct not supported, file a bug. Since Urlang has not been released on pkgs.racket-lang.org yet, clone the Github repo. And then use the Package Manager in DrRacket (or use raco) to ins

Actually Urlang is like JavaScript. The syntax is different, the semantics are the same. Except that I signal error for unbound identifiers (and DrRacket will show where in the source code). Also I allow names with dashes in them. As an add

Here Ur just means something simple. Also urlang is a bad pun. It sounds like Erlang (whom the programming language Erlang is named after), who grew up near where I live.

1/10 is a literal. It denotes the value one tenth. The expression (/ 1 10) will at runtime calculate 1 divided by 10. Most programming languages have syntax for writing all available numbers as literals. Racket do not have builtin

Racket programs runs on many platforms including Linux. In DrRacket you can choose the "Create Executable..." to package your Racket program with the files needed to run the program (without the user installing Racket). Since this

That's interesting. Why was it a dead end? Was it due to the (too dynamic) semantics of Arc? Or perhaps you have too much code written in standard Arc to make infeasible to port?

I found Arc version 3.1 on arclanguage.org. It does compile to (Mz)Scheme - but it does not use the MzScheme macro expander. It reads Arc program as an s-expression. Compiles the program and produces an mzscheme program also represented as

Judging from the code, the main idea is to implement the Arc (or Arc-like) language using the standard techniques used to implement new languages in Racket. This approach will make it easy to use the tools/infrastructure of Racket with
