I wish people didn't watch so much television. It's too good and too easy to watch an unlimited amount of content. Every hour you spend being entertained in front of your screens is an hour less you could be spending building actu

Best solution IMO is to rent a $10 a month seedbox and use it for torrenting. And/or only use private trackers. Stay away from the public ones.

Thanks for the great response! Very informative. I assumed I was way simplifying the problem. It seems like what works for my small remote only startup is not even close to what you need for a large in-person org running who-knows-what soft

Is being a "good" security person really more involved than: * making sure you have all your ports locked down * limit connectivity between all instances to only the bare minimum * any public access is via protocols such as ssh wh

I thought it was pretty apt analogy... makes perfect sense to me. Comparing it to one criminal gang robbing another - yes! It sounds like you are trying to interpret it very literally?

I would also argue freemium mobile games aren't nearly as fun as PC/premium games. Freemium developers are a different crowd and more like a typical SW engineer. I've done both. I'm looking forward to going back to premi

I never once took any position for or against collective bargaining in the game industry. I would say I have not looked into this enough to fairly have an opinion on the matter. Plus, I do think my own experience has been with the "goo

You could be right, my game industry career could be an outlier. I never worked at a big AAA studio like EA or Ubisoft. I worked on MMOs.

No one expects the comp time to exactly equal how much extra time you worked. It's just like a little thank you for working hard, and so you can decompress and take care of whatever you've been neglecting in your life during crunc

We're not overseas though, we're in the US where we get 15-25 vacation days a year. So an extra 5-10 days each time you crunch is pretty significant. Also this is extra vacation. I get the equation is still in favor of the emplo

Just to have a bit of a counter argument from me, a game developer who loves games and has worked in the US games industry for the majority of my 20 years career: If your argument is "You can make more at a FAANG company" - well y

175k is not enough... it needs to be 300k at least. maybe 500k. Something high enough that the risk-reward for corruption is less attractive. 175k is a nice life but not even remotely enough to have the lifestyle you'd expect for someo

100% Agree. Salaries for elected officials should be far higher and then make punishments for this very very strict so there's zero incentive to graft. The people running our country should not be making less than any typical c-staff o

I don't understand how that is related to IAPs or subscriptions? If the app has premium features gated behind a subscription, it needs to either use Apple's Subscriptions to check with Apple if your Apple ID has the subscription.

I think you are saying that if you uninstall/reinstall, you could lose your subscription since it's from a consumable IAP. I agree that is a bad flow and something that Apple could fix by still allowing non-renewing subscriptions,

The scam really is about the iOS Subscriptions and how its easy to have a free trial then auto-bill you for some absurd amount. Very easy to trick people into doing this. Apple should just remove Subscriptions completely and have app develo

A pension pays you a fixed rate per year until you die. Very different from a 401k. And that is why all these government entities have such hefty pension responsibilities. It seems absolutely stupid. Like, just do the math. What did these p

Most Americans don't have disposable income to invest in the stock market.... there is no amount of investing that will turn their "barely making ends meet" wages into a living wage.
