I get your pessimism, but I prefer to look at the past for guiding posts. From ratified spec to hardware on shelves, a 3 year delay has been consistent. This time, it should be no different. I see no reason for RVA23 chips not to show up as

I like to pretend options without ECC simply do not exist. (i.e. as it should be) It shortens the list of options, making choices much easier.

It really should be "nginx static web hosting..." as it seems to be very specifically measuring nginx performance across OSs. Otherwise, seL4/LionsOS webserver scenario could be tested.

That'll be true for a few months at best. The first RVA23 and development boards are coming. Tenstorrent announced Atlantis in the RISC-V Summit, based on Ascalon microarchitecture and due 2026H1.

Nice eyecatching headline, but unfortunately not true. Amiga and Classic Mac both use the 68k series of CPUs. It's never been about the CPUs. The reason Amiga is any faster is hardware acceleration features outside of the CPU.

This license is, AIUI, OSH compliant. Awesome. Thank you for releasing your work as open hardware.

Tangentially related, seL4's LionsOS can now act as a router/firewall[0]. 0. https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=45959952

Looks nice, but there's no license. Can't do a thing with this.

Honestly, if I was Valve, I wouldn't just sell it at a loss, but I would also bundle some store credit. Getting new people into the Steam ecosystem should be worth losing a bit through the machine sales, with long term thinking.

Do not miss the latest seL4 summit's state of seL4 talk by Gernot Heiser[0], which besides providing an update on the work done this year, goes into performance[1]. This is real world throughput and latency seL4 is crushing Linux on, n

The most important effort is seL4[0], the fastest OS kernel out there which also happens to be the most formally verified. LionsOS[1] is its static scenario building framework, with some dynamic scenario support. Genode[2] is an independent

Tenstorrent has announced Ascalon development boards TBA 2026Q2. That's not gonna beat the M5, but it should be similar or better relative to M1, and a huge performance jump for RISC-V.

Seems a good step towards a whole replacement firmware. No real reason to keep running google's code on these things.
