It’s more than that. The app likely has some backend dependencies that require some ongoing maintenance or cost. It’s not just that your washing machine depends on an iOS app, but on some DynamoDB table somewhere.

Time is warped by gravity. Gravity is produced by matter with mass. The early universe had a higher mass-density resulting in this time-warping effect.

You can still utilize code spaces with other IDEs and text editors. It’s just a matter of SSHing into them.

Have you considered using Pluto notebooks instead? They are designed to be reproducible (including version references to transitive dependencies). They are also reactive, so it is trivial to change the dataset.

I really wish this sort of thing was automatic, transparent to the user, and built into the Julia runtime.

Languages and with some sort of decent metaprogramming support can alleviate this sort of issue (see Zig, Julia, Jai, etc.)

I wish Framework had more color options in their Marketplace (e.g gold, torquise, pink), especially considering how they advertise themselves as being modular / customizable.

The solution is obvious: journals should, as a matter of policy, refuse to publish non-reproducible studies. Reproducibility is the only thing separating science from mythology.

In retrospect, how essential was it that Julia went the dynamic route in the first place (as opposed to taking a Haskell-like approach to inferred static typing)?

As described in the article, the political bias is intentional. It is the result of (not-so-transparent) ethical guard rails baked into the system.
