Yes, we'd like to release it someday, but it won't be any time soon unfortunately. There are a lot of dependencies on other parts of our codebase, e.g. for configuration and monitoring, which would need to be cleaned up. We will p

Very nice work, and the wiki is also quite nice -- I wish more projects had a page like https://github.com/facebook/rocksdb/wiki/Rocksdb-Architectur... . It's really nice to see a clear, terse summary of

Taking a short break every 20~30 minutes is a good idea for other reasons, too. It gives you a chance to get up and walk around for a minute, which gets your blood moving and counteracts some of the ill effects of sitting in a chair all day

As sprizzle says, F1 and Dremel are not competitors; Dremel is a read-only system supporting large analysis queries, while F1 is a read-write system designed for large numbers of smaller queries. Last year Google published a paper on PowerD

It does require a near vacuum. At high speed, the tiny amount of air in the tube gets compressed to the point where it plays a significant role in the dynamics of the train's motion. So, both are true.

Yup, the level of interest is becoming clear. :) We'll work on getting this published in some form. Keep an eye on our blog, or e-mail us at contact@scalyr.com and ask to be notified when the code is available.

I suspect this would be very difficult to implement robustly. There are just too many ways to hide something: color it white, overlay another element on top, use a weird font that causes it to look like something else, ...

Well, it depends on what you're using it for. In many cases, the issues we wrestled with are fairly minor. It's only when you have a very large number of data nodes that you run into trouble.

We'd have to do a little cleanup work to be able to publish these, but we'll definitely do it if there's enough interest. Feel free to follow up with us at contact@scalyr.com.

Interesting way of looking at things, but the math is WAY off -- you've confused "passengers per flight" with "passengers per year".

I wish this sort of thing were more common. For debugging purposes if nothing else, it's helpful to support custom metadata everywhere in an API -- every data type, every logged operation.

I keep hearing great things about DigitalOcean, but the critical price parameter for me is flash storage, and they don't seem to be beating AWS here. The larger DigitalOcean plans are $1 / GB / month for flash. An EC2 hi1.4xl

No, the seller is retaining responsibility for the pension. Imagine that the Globe was worth $X including pension obligations. Then the Globe unencumbered by pension obligations should be worth $X+110M. The sale price implies $X+110M = 70M,

Interesting that the reviews for this book were so much better than The Casual Vacancy. I wonder whether it is in fact better written, or simply that The Casual Vacancy suffered for having J. K. Rowling's name attached to it. (Expectat

Heartily agreed. I am extremely disappointed with Musk over this incident -- and now with the NYT as well, for failing to stand their (valid) ground and failing to call out Musk's blatant lies and manipulations. As the dust settles, it appe
