No. Lots of people have never heard of FAA702 (which has been well-documented in mass media) much less Carnivore or ECHELON. The default email provider for most people in the west is Gmail.

GPUs aren’t scarce. There is just a lot of demand, so prices have gone up. Anyone can get GPUs right now and build out what they need; it’s just a matter of paying more for them than the next company. I’ve been looking at building a multi

It’s not just HN. The USG has been manufacturing consent for war with China (trade or otherwise) in the US population for decades. Same goes for Iran.

The amount of solar power available to the square area on top of a trailer is negligible compared to the energy required to haul it long distances. Regen braking would probably only be worth it in some limited circumstances.

It works via the same mechanism as an incredible drug called Repatha (generic name evolocumab), but Repatha is quite expensive, requires refrigeration, and must be injected subcutaneously every two weeks. The news here is that this is admi

The APIs for the frontier models via the US hosters do the exact same thing wrt saving the requests and responses for data mining. Let’s not pretend that pervasive surveillance is an eastern thing.

OS-native dictation on iOS requires uploading your address book to Apple on every request, even if you don’t use iCloud. I unfortunately have to leave it disabled for this reason.

Though the primary way of installing Xcode is via MAS (requiring Apple ID login), Xcode can be downloaded from the Apple Developer website without an ADP membership, though you do have to log in to the website with an Apple ID. You don’t h

You still have to open Xcode (to get the certs), and you still have to accept the Xcode EULA. Title is quite misleading if not outright false.

It was easy, via Airdrop, but the CCP doesn’t like people being able to share files in a decentralized manner in groups, and Apple ceases to exist as we know it if they don’t do whatever the CCP wants, so it was nerfed.

Nah I mostly don’t use AGPL software because I consider it nonfree, the same way I don’t use any other source-available nonfree stuff. The issue I have with it is the hypocrisy, not the code. They pretend that it’s free software but it’s j

Supervised devices cannot be backed up and restored to supervised devices. You can only backup/restore to an unsupervised target. If you want supervision, you have to abandon your backup. It sucks.

Running a SaaS does not “fork users away”. You can’t fork a SaaS because services are not software and software are not services.

That’s simply not true, and you know it. Violating my privacy with a EULA is the issue there. It’s ok to put a EULA on software, but to pretend it’s still free software is the dishonest part.
