Serious question: how long do you expect cloud hardware vendors to support the servers for their products? 10 years? 20? 30?

I like being able to adjust HVAC based on temperature sensors that are not co-located with the input keypad. Being able to use the temp reading in a specific room is choice.

A lot of my more important (to me/IMHO) blog posts started out as seed crystal HN comments that I developed into full articles.

I use a VPN because it does NAT and shared public IP. My residential connection’s public IP and timestamp uniquely identifies my physical residence. Also ISPs are shady and will sniff your DNS and SNI and they know your name, address, and

Most of the code I write is greenfield projects. I’m pretty spoiled, I guess. Claude Code has helped me ship a lot of things I always wanted to build but didn’t have time to do.

It’s funny to me that a lot of articles about how to more effectively undertake being a W2 wage slave come through a website dedicated to entrepreneurship. If you run your own company (or even just your own small business) you don’t have to

You seem to be a minority. Consider for a moment that the default behavior of the gmail app is to make a notification for each and every incoming new email. Look at a normal person’s email inbox sometime. Most people use default settings a

Seems to me that if you want to waste time and money engineering your setup more net efficient, just buy a few solar panels and LiFePo4 batteries to buffer. You can run other stuff off of it, too. I always choose “make more money” over “pi

There’s no such thing as a “free ride” on software that is given away freely . It’s a gift. Once you gift it, it is no longer yours, it belongs to the people to whom you have given it to, to do whatever they wish with.

It would be very simple to build such a thing if you could analyze everyone's payments. With total surveillance, you can have total safety! Why would you want privacy when you could have safety instead? The ironic part is that the go

I don't. I don't want the web to become just a runtime for opaque binary applications. Right now we still maintain some semblance of user control over the DOM and the application; when everything is WASM and WebGPU using its own

A lot of people suffer greatly and die to cause that mess. A perfect example is the terrible mismanagement of the epidemic in the USA; over a million people dead, many (most?) of them unnecessarily for the active rejection of basic infectio

I was wondering how long it would take for the web to get to this point. It seemed inevitable once canvas became a thing. You don’t even technically need gl or wasm to rewrite an entire rendering engine in js that can just blast pixels at
