Apple’s in-house cloud stuff is mostly Java on commodity Linux servers. I don’t think they are looking to have macOS compete with Linux. Most of the special sauce from GCP and AWS is the integrated software services anyway.

Google Docs (and modern versions of Microsoft 365) offers a much nicer experience for a lot of writing work, so I can see why the author would prefer it to an offline solution—especially for creative writing. I like being able to write on m

The Photos icon on macOS Catalina and iOS (I haven't taken a look at the Big Sur redesign yet) looks like literal candy—it's a great example of this phenomenon, in my opinion. I love how the colors blend together and overlap with

If you're a potential customer for this product, then Cloudflare already sits in front of your traffic anyway. I doubt that this product is going to be used by many people who weren't already Cloudflare customers.

You can press ^E to complete the current autocompletion, or keep typing a little more to disambiguate if needed. edit: this originally said ^D, which is EOF, not autocomplete :)

Bash is definitely seen as the "Linux shell", but most users of non-Linux Unixes and Unix-likes don't use Bash. macOS, for instance, now uses Zsh out of the box (although most Bash one-liners still run unmodified in Zsh). But

Notability is pretty good. It's not too fancy, but it's very fast and Ginger Labs has continually added new features.

Type inference is the usual tradeoff for being able to write statically-typed code efficiently. I think it's better than MyType something = new MyType(...); like in old-school Java, is it not? IDEs and LSP-enabled editors are p

The amazing thing about Emacs is that you can run a snippet of elisp from anywhere at any time. I never found this to be a major advantage of Emacs for my own workflow, but if it matters to you, editors like VS Code won't cut it. The m
