The Tree Style Tab add-on might be relevant to your interests? It's a little flaky since the switch to new style extensions, but still better than any other option I've seen: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/

Rubymine can, with one click, make an ER diagram of your ActiveRecord model -- from the code, not the db schema. That pays for itself right there, especially if you're learning someone else's code base. Try it for a day, you&#x

I think there are two issues: 1) Can you get your technically illiterate grandfather on there? 2) Is it easy to have a good experience without someone guiding you? The distributed answers seem to fail both of those metrics?

I've been wondering what it would take to build a Facebook-like thing that isn't evil. Thoughts? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=27946350

Any chance you know of a decent video showing how to teach someone to snowboard? (or ski?) I'd love to understand the best way to do that.

I think you might be missing the main "aha!" of clojure REPLs vs REPLs in non-homoiconic languages: you can very easily execute small parts of the program you're editing without re-typing the code. In emacs, for instance, y

By the time you get to that point, you've won and can afford to hire a team to handle the friction to build out. People scale Rails and Django apps to large customer bases before having to start thinking about how to design for "

The point jangid made above about being able to specify part of the program with only one character makes a significant difference: What I like about Lisp's syntax is that the cursor (point) is always in a complete Lisp program. Yo

Understanding what lisp-ers mean by 'repl-driven development' -- and why a python or node repl isn't it -- is really hard for people who don't get this, and haven't used it in practice.
