Caffeine (like all stimulants) can alleviate symptoms of various dopamine-related disorders, like ADHD. I'm sure many people are self-medicating.

An experienced dev wouldn't need 400 files and 2,000 tests just for this.

Wow, you spent a crazy amount of time on something an experienced dev could hack together in a weekend without AI, and probably as little as a day with Claude Code. This is like an anti-ad for AI and vibe-coding.

What exactly happened then? How did we all have this collective hallucination?

The administration doesn't decide spending. Congress does. There's no chance we get an anti-AI majority until a major AI catastrophe turns the public against it.

Tell that to oil and defense companies. If tech companies convince Congress that AI is an existential issue (in defense or even just productivity), then these companies will get subsidies forever.

Opus 4.6 pre-nerf was incredible, almost magical. It changed my understanding of how good models could be. But that's the only model that ever made me feel that way.

People think it's true because it is true, and OpenAI has told us themselves. They (very optimistically) say they'll be profitable in 2030.

Yes, and the US is by far Apple's most important handset market. The other iOS-majority countries are small markets for Apple.

It is, and the iPhone doesn't have overwhelming market share in any other large market, which is my point.

Consumers don't necessarily want iPhone. They don't want to be excluded from iMessage, which is a completely different motivation.

"10 years behind" would be an improvement for Siri. It's actively broken much of the time in a way that Google Assistant or Alexa never has been.

None of those are the best product in their category, and all are only huge sellers because Apple anti-competitively privileges them in its ecosystem.

I think you have misunderstood the reason people want social media. They want the audience (or the perception of an audience), and everything else is secondary.

You can already do this with strict type checking enabled and the NonNullable type. You can't enforce it in any normal codebase because null is used extensively in the third party libraries you'll have to use for most projects.

How would TS fix null in JS without violating its core principles of adhering to EcmaScript standards and being a superset of JS?

China is rapidly electrifying and gets a lot of energy from non-US coal. China also sells renewables to other countries. The US will be harmed far more than China by consistently high oil prices.
