To be honest, I think this is the primary weakness of Handmade Hero. Casey is plainly a more talented programmer than designer, and his missteps in the latter domain felt to me more like wasted time than valuable experience. This is why I

The notion of optimal compression is nonsense anyway. Here is even more digits of pi, compressed to fit into this comment: π Decompression may take some work.

Same thing happened to me in Guild Wars. I loved that game to death, but I'm honestly grateful.

Not quite the same thing. The character 子 has many different readings, meaning it is pronounced differently depending on context. E.g. 子 on its own is KO, but in the word 中性子 (chuuseishi) it is pronounced SHI. Those different pronunciati

Paranoid response: if such a versioning ledger were to exist, how could you trust it? The feasibility problem still remains (it is feasible to alter archives that were formerly infeasible) and you now rely on trust that (1) all alterations

Just to throw in my own anecdote, I took linear algebra twice (in high school with no college credit, and in college) and I still couldn't ever remember afterwards what an eigenvector was until I watched that series. Now I'll pr

Thanks to this comment, I've now spent this past weekend binging the entire Ben Eater 8-bit computer series this far. Very entertaining, and I certainly learned a few things about computer architecture. I'm very tempted to do the

In a world where SEO consultants exist, you foresee an inevitable future where Google is killed by a massive wave of companies rewriting their websites to be un-Googleable?

My anecdata indicates the opposite, as far as quality of recommendations is concerned. Curious how matters of taste might mean that you can't accurately make sweeping generalizations like this.

Foam earplugs are absolute garbage. The difference is night and day. With foam, it's like being at a rock show underwater. With musician's earplugs, it's like being at a rock show at a reasonable volume. Spend the $20.
