Most large service providers disallow ICMP (which prevents these types of ping attacks), unfortunately that also messes with path MTU discovery. One potential way of dealing with these bot nets forging source IPs is to perform an analysis o

Excellent! I'd love to see more companies follow suit. I have a bunch of 'logowear' and it annoys me greatly when a company puts TM or R after its logo on shirts, hats, jackets, etc. It seems absurd to me to need to protect their mark so vi

DNSSEC-signed responses can be very large. Here's an example of turning a 31 byte request into a 3974 byte response: http://dnscurve.org/amplification.html That's ~128x amplification -- with a 100Mbps connection, roughly 12.8Gbps of resp

I wonder how much profit there is to create loops? Company outsources to India which outsources to the US which outsources back to India which outsources back to the US, etc. I guess they make it work by finding cheap labor in the US (compa

I did this but was expecting more from Google. As an example, it was easier to add two factor auth to my Blizzard account (and install their authenticator) than it was for Google. These are the steps for Google: - Add mobile phone to accoun

Ok, that makes sense. When I saw 'Year to 30 June' I thought January 1, 2012 to June 30, 2012.

How come only ~1.3x annualized revenue (the press release said: Year to 30 June 2012, Matasano revenue was $5.0m)? That seems like a very low multiplier -- are consulting companies treated differently from product companies in this regard?

I agree with the author; most people don't bother cracking the case on any computer they own. We're in the minority on this one and as the author said, I'd rather have a MBP with Retina Display than an easy to service/upgrade previous gener

I think if you combine Ruby on Rails and 'Ruby on Rails Token' it's larger than PHP. It's strange to me that they track this by their own detection algorithm instead of aggregating based on framework.

This seems like an interesting concept and the LEDs should make it easier to see which strings need to be played. I'm curious how it compares to the Rocksmith video game which is played with a real guitar (which I haven't tried). There is c

Isn't the pump considerably cheaper than li-ion batteries? I think Tesla was quoting $40k.

Be careful. "Now I have another Rails project lined up for a NYC fashion site that pays about 15% more per hour than my day job" Contracting is vastly different than being an employee. Your employer pays considerably more than 15% more per

So do these batteries still suffer from the same problem of permanent damage if completely discharged? That's the biggest thing that scares me away from buying a Tesla (well, that and the high price of Tesla Motors models).

This is really difficult sometimes. I wholeheartedly agree with Jason about giving new ideas some time (and thought). Most people are resistant to change and their immediate reaction is to reject new and/or novel ideas. Some ideas take days

They are asking for code or a brief description of how you proceeded through the steps. If you're going to take the time to document the process (correctly) then it shouldn't matter that you have the root password. Presumably you'd get stuc

I can't find a number from the SSA regarding how much a billionaire (or millionaire) would receive. But this report states that from 2004-2009 $9B was paid out to millionaires in social security benefits: http://www.coburn.senate.gov/publi

From: http://www.ssa.gov/history/hfaq.html Q20: Are Social Security numbers reused after a person dies? A: No. We do not reassign a Social Security number (SSN) after the number holder's death. Even though we have issued over 453 million
