I think it might loosely mean network socket, as in a connection to an end user. But not literal TCP sockets, as users arent 1:1 with those.

I don't think your bacteria on a slide analogy makes much sense. A thin 3D space is still not 2D. A bacterium also doesn't have any comprehension or concept of anything, so of course it doesn't have a concept of 3D space. Und

What interest does NASA have in cover-ups or destruction of evidence? I can't imagine any reason for them to be dishonest about not finding evidence of aliens which is based in reality as opposed to paranoid nonsense.

I do realize that "It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it!" I'm likewise very aware that that's a factor in people's defense of the status quo.

Sounds like you're talking about anti-latency arbitrage mechanisms, which aren't a new subject. The book Flash Boys talked about IEX, an exchange set up in Canada with an enforced minimum latency via propagation delay, just by hav

I highly doubt anyone with a legit license to use the IP would be making a Show HN post of this nature based on AI generated artwork, and with a gmail address for a contact.

Chompsky makes a biting critique of the US military-industrial complex. It's a great book that I recommend everyone sink their teeth into at some point.

The state university I grew up near in NYS was serviced by a private bus system for more than a decade. I don't remember much about it other than the busses being painted blue and being full of college students.

Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie them in a knot? Can you tie them in a bow? Can you throw them over your shoulder like a continental soldier? Do your ears hang low?

I wonder if this is what Nancy Pelosi's husband actually bought all his NVDA in preparation for, way back then. Their prices have been shit for consumers since then, but it's still been good for them.

You couldn't hit DENY ALL? I'd like to remind everyone talking about GDPR that cookie banners aren't even necessary under GDPR if you simply do not use tracking cookies on your website.

Tangential, but, nowadays there are many digital spaces where saying "its not ok to hate cis white men" will get you a chorus of people saying "yes it is", followed by the boot.

Normally when a business has costs, they recoup them by charging an amount for their services that can pay their costs and leave them some margin. ISP around the US advertise one price and then tack on these... apparently special costs as s

You might surprised how a good teacher could inspire hope in teenagers over this, contrary to all the other signals that indicate doom and gloom in their futures. Global warming was already weighing on me in my teens when I'm in my 30s
