That's because it's a "Google experience" phone. Any phone that has the Google logo on it can't be messed with in any way. Vodafone couldn't mess with it if they wanted to since Google wouldn't let them sell it if they did.

I really don't think there's that much integration going on at Google. Maybe eventually but for now, from the outside, it really feels like they're trying to go into many somewhat unrelated directions and hoping some interesting paths revea

I wouldn't say it's common but it certainly isn't uncommon. I have basically the same view. I like to code and I'm not big on risk but I hate bureaucracy and bullshit even more. So startups are a great fit. They're generally places where pe

I find it's rather that they take care of every detail. I refuse to buy an iPhone but I'm still not satisfied with the state of Android phones. There's the phones with the great cameras (but are underpowered). There's the phones with the

No, I'd never seen that. It looks like exactly what I've wanted to recommend to people. I didn't say I was happy with recommending handbrake, it was simply the least complicated option I had seen and my brother seemed to be able to muddle t

I know that's how it works internally, but I'm not inside. Honestly, I believe in the scientific method in a way very close to how the religious believe in their chosen faith. I have no problem admitting that to myself. Science is basically

I am indeed a programmer and command line doesn't faze me. I use both ffmpeg and mencoder pretty often and I think ffmpeg2theora might've been the one that actually produced something that wasn't crashing players like mad. But even for me i

I tried very hard to use ogg for encoding a video about 1.5 years ago as well (it was a requirement) and it was so painful. The tools are awful and it took me 5 tries just to get something that wouldn't crash most players if you tried seeki

I don't see how this is surprising. iPhone is a single device. There are many Android phones with many more to come. I would be surprised if any one device (say, Motorola's Droid for example) surpassed the iPhone but the Android OS as a who

PCI compliance isn't something a startup should be looking to saddle themselves with, in my mind. Once you're established and can analyze whether you want to internalize an outsourced function, it's on the table with everything else I supp

I wasn't implying that you were, I was just trying to be clear. Why is simple. It's the economics. If you're a startup that does lots of micro-transactions you're paying a good chunk of overhead in gateway processing fees. If you feel it's

It's only for the most exhibitionist type of people. Think of sci-fi books with people being "life actors" or some such where people can tune in to them 24/7 and see what they're doing. It's basically just a stepping stone to that. I don't
