You build binaries and make sure SHA1 matches. Obviously malicious vendor can have custom compiler that inserts backdoor code during compilation and obfuscated stuff like that but it dramatically increases complexity and number of engineers

The only users of cobol left are large corporations - they can definitely pay more to programmers. Good software engineer can pick up Cobol skills in a couple of month, six month top. We are not talking about neuorsurgent.

Cars are ultimate commodity - you can buy Lexus or BMW and they are mostly equivalent. I am sure Toyota or Honda will be happy to sell cars in UK. Import to UK from EU is almost 1.5x higher than reverse. Tariffs will cost EU more than UK.

And it's all on video camera (pretty much all hotel lobbies have them), whoever made a copy of a key remember it, etc. Many hotel corridors have cameras too. It's not as easy as you think to get copy of the key and enter the room
