I used ST2 for like five years in its unregistered state. (I rationalized that by telling myself that nothing I used it for made me money, but I still feel a little gross about it.) In practice it was no problem. I paid for an ST3 license,

Seems like as good a time as any to show off this cursed thing I keep in my dotfiles: # Allow .. through ........... (yup!) to cd up some number of directories. for i in {1..10}; do spaces=$(printf "%${i}s")

I never understood why they encode stuff that way. Most streams that I've looked at devote literally 98-99% of the bits to the video, and the audio stream is just scraps. The film's sound department worked really hard on that stuf

Just a PSA for anyone unaware, you can get checks printed anywhere and using a huge variety of designs. It is not mandatory to order them from the bank where the account is held.

Pro Tip: While the YouTube player is paused, the comma and period keys move back/forward by one frame. (Memory aid, < and > but without using Shift -- assuming US PC keyboard layout.)

I've had some luck by misusing older hardware designed for network appliances. I picked up an older Protectli Vault used on eBay for something like $65 and it's more capable in practice than I would've thought. (Makes sense I

I think(?) you're thinking of "Adaptive Recovery" which has a few manufacturer-specific aliases. The behavior is broadly as follows: Consider a thermostat heating schedule that is programmed for 64F overnight, increasing to

In RTP NC, GFiber's $70 pricing beats equivalent speed plans from the other two symmetric fiber providers in the area, AT&T and Spectrum (if you live on the right streets). It's not _dirt_ cheap, but it's the cheapest we

It's a case-by-case thing. Sometimes in this big world you see people asking things like "how do I write a firewall wildcard rule that blocks all IPv6 addresses starting with the number '2'?" and you just want to re

Ah yes, perpetually flagged by every corporate firewall that did substring keyword matching on DNS queries. Incidentally, the amount of sheer content-masking garbage on their pages was what originally prompted me to install and learn (IIRC)

I mean, I’m not really a fan of the spaceship whine that the newest Honda CR-V models put out in electric mode. It’s going to be hard to please everybody on this planet.

E2L11 “Lunatic Fringe.” The map has an outer ring containing 720 degrees of hallway. Surprisingly disorienting even when you know that’s what’s going on.
