I'm curious, a few of your comments are lists of $thing: $link - often without context or any explanation, so is there some form of automation going on here? Additionally, while the tone of the original comment was a little cheeky,

I used to wait for the archive.ph (or similar) link to be posted too. But it's actually really easy, if you encounter a paywalled article copy the URL, go to https://archive.ph , paste it into the second URL field and submit

Could be due to the added consumer protections and rights you get within the EU - regulations on how the airline should treat you when they cancel flights or when they arrive late etc?

I was giving an example of one of the things I liked in particular. Text on a flag to me is usually a no-no but in Iraq’s case it works (and Iran’s too, but a bit more subtle). Sorry I should’ve been clearer :-)

Yeah it gives you a bit of confidence that the problem may not be something on your end. I don't think there's a perfect way to handle this, though.

Step #3 is unfortunately often pointless given that often either: 1. the status page is unavailable too 2. the status page reports the service as green/available even though it's red/down (maybe it's still accessible to

There are people here on HN who do this, and not just the green-name accounts that get spun up, spew nonsense for a few days before being downvoted to the point that they're shadowbanned. There are years-old accounts who do carry a lo

Minor nitpick, the agency infamous for gangs is the LASD which is separate. The LAPD is infamous in other ways though, Rodney King is going to stick in many people's minds for a long time, and there's an enormous "Corruptio

I don't think diordiderot is claiming more cops = better. They're giving one example of how police could stop crime, but one that is self-evidently not scalable. One cop per storefront would cause the number of police to explode

It definitely is more complex than that but currently the most popular type of beer now was not the original beer (or was not among the first beers, certainly not until the 1800s) and is relatively modern.

The fact that food and drink evolve over time isn't too controversial. Beer, for example, evolved from having darker "ale" being more popular, to lighter lager/pilsner/ležák being the predominant type. I don't
