That would be an interesting AI problem - "Does this picture contain a female areola?" ;-) Although, it does kind of raise the sexism question - why is a topless male OK but not a topless female? Didn't NYC recently lose a lawsuit for that

This will be my last response in this thread - it seems to be degrading into a flame war. If you want more info email me (my address is in my profile). I wasn't saying 'statistics' as a magical name, I was just using it as shorthand for the

Correlation != Causation Is it any surprise that the kind of people who save up a huge amount of money to make a down payment and are consistently responsible enough to always make large mortgage payments are 'good' people? By 'good' I simp

Of course a large number of random events do tend to form known patterns/distributions. Go read any introductory statistics books - and pay particular attention to the chapters on random walks and outcome distributions.

"It is well known that wealth is shared out unfairly" We know no such thing. We know that wealth is distributed unequally (see, for example, the Gini coefficient). Whether or not an unequal distribution of wealth is unfair is a decidedly no

That's just as arbitrary (and even worse, inconsistent). Consider the following: xxxxxxxxxo 0123456789 Where 'x' represents a person who has been served, and 'o' represents someone who hasn't. Your rule suggests the person at posit

I actually want more code links ... there have been depressingly few of them lately. Currently only one of the top ten is about code (talking about code community or drama of the moment isn't code ...)

If that's the case, then this would be a much smaller improvement for DB's that can be stored entirely in-memory or on SSD, right? I think that most small db's are mostly in memory, and most large ones will be on SSD soon, so do you think t

Be more specific throughout your resume. For example, the years you attended school and GPA are probably necessary for a new graduate (5 years down the line, you probably won't need them, but now you do). Also, these lines are useless (but

It's particularly amazing how high functioning people who lack basic logical reasoning skills can be. I have to admit: sometimes it takes me weeks (or even months) to realize that someone I know is a complete idiot. The problem is that day-

Your link said that they vaccinated 40 Million people, and accidentally caused 25 deaths. If that's the downside, I'm willing to risk it ... To be ultra conservative, assume there's a 0.1% chance that this becomes 10% as bad as the 1918 flu
