The double counting of bike activity as steps drove me crazy when I had one. Made me switch to a garmin.

That's really cool! One thing I can think of, instead of setting the shortcut to run when your phone is plugged in, you can make an automation start when an app is opened/closed, so if you use this on the Reminders app, it should

They’re naturally opposed in a way. Bike infrastructure is car infrastructure, you need protected cycle paths etc where there’s a lot of cars or they’re going fast. If it wasn’t for cars, the current infrastructure is great for bikes.

The example is literally one cache line, which probably won't affect the rest of the program too much. But given the average L1 throughput, I'd bet the bitwise version is faster

The obese are mad at the diabetics, the diabetics are mad at the obese, while they should be mad at their failure of politicians who won’t regulate the drug market like any other functioning democracy. It’d be funny if it wasn’t so tragic

An important figure that I'd like to see is the energy efficiency. In a lot of applications, the microcontroller is going to be asleep 95%+ of the time. For those, what I want to know isn't really how fast it can do $COMPUTATION,

I'm going to bet that data isn't just from people who gave access to their address book, it's probably from advertisers as well. Advertisers can upload a list of mobile phones, email address and names to Facebook to ask them

The problem isn’t the gas being burned, it’s the gas not being burned. Natural gas is a much stronger greenhouse gas, to the point where leaks make up more of the greenhouse effect of residential gas than the CO2 from burning said gas.

IIRC, a kWh of electricity is about 3x more expensive than a gas kWh. You’re correct if your heating is electric (resistive) though.

It’s great if you’re on an unfamiliar machine and need a calculator with loops. It’s also great to press all the buttons on a website.

I'm willing to bet that within 5 years we'll see a CPU that effectively embeds a DMA engine used through this instruction. The way I'd implement it is a small FSM in the LLC that does the bulk copy while the CPU keeps running

If you have a good router that does some queue management and doesn’t suffer from buffer bloat, it shouldn’t impact it too much.
