Deterioration tends to be roughly linear on an Arrhenius scale, which is basically the scale which is exponential on the inverse temperature. This is because deterioration tends to be roughly linear on the activation energy of defects.

I agree with all of this, unfortunately. I worked for Intel for two years after graduating with a PhD in EE. I learned a lot from the experience, but I can't recommend it. I work in software, now. The PhD was great, though. I loved doi

Interesting. I don't have access to the full text of the paper, but I'm surprised the platinum-doped gallium doesn't form a protective oxide shell, like pure gallium does. Perhaps this depends on having very small particles?

Well, if our energy use continues to grow at the current rate, we'll boil the oceans in about 450 years, so I would say no. https://dothemath.ucsd.edu/2011/07/galactic-scale-energy/

The "Nobel prize in economics" isn't a real Nobel prize. It wasn't funded by Nobel, and it isn't issued by the same committee.

I highly recommend reading Daring Greatly by Brene Brown (after completing your assignments). The book covers this topic among others.

I don't know if there are any controlled studies, but there's plenty of informal evidence that naive people cope poorly with traumatic events. Resilience is a product (though admittedly not a guaranteed product) of experience.

Instead of minimizing windows, put them on a separate virtual desktop. Or close them. I never minimize windows on purpose. I think the only reason the concept exists is because it predates virtual desktop switching. Also, instead of Alt-Tab

I like Casey Muratori's view of software architecture being more akin to urban planning than to building architecture. Taking that view seems to alleviate many of the apparent paradoxes.
