I bought a Honda Civic toy from an auto parts store recently. I thought it was purely static but it has a spring pull back motion and also flashes the lights and honks the horn when you open the doors. Then I leaned on it and discovered it

It’s an odd change though. The rate of homicide per 100,000 for men goes down in they’re in the army (9.3 per 100,000 in the US general population) but for women their rate doubles.

Me too apparently. Trying to stay employed after my startup failed has been 3 years of shit. I’ve had 3 jobs in that time. The first one I was managed out, admittedly my fault as I was a poor fit for the culture of that place and had cla

Convenience. I don’t buy many movies digitally but it’s usually because the family is over and they want to watch something new. Of course I may then pirate it afterwards so I can keep a backup of my purchased movie.

I did read somewhere that Gen X are the last gen in modern societies to see anything real. Everything is just a simulation of older things. All the stupid bars nd cafes with rustic wood and old timey aesthetics for example.

Exactly. The pascal I used had no way to dynamically allocate a string they were all fixed at compile time. That really sucked.

Looking native has long left the station as an objection about a UI. Like 25 years ago. Nobody gives a damn since Microsoft stopped giving a damn.

I had Claude write a bit of stupid C# the other day that had an off by one string truncate. Surprised the hell out of me.

Zero terminated strings were the basis for an awful lot of useful software. Calling them the biggest mistake in computing is a bit OTT. I haven’t programmed anything Pascal related for 30+ years but I dimly remember thinking at the time th

It’s funny to me that a lot of the initial dismissal of Swing was “it isn’t native widgets”. Now that’s seen as a positive.

It has been interesting. The good guys got better with AI. The C grade guys mostly get confused, or follow hallucinations for a lot longer before they realise it’s a dead end. If anything AI seems to make it easier to see who is good and

I work at a place that is actively hiring juniors. While they don’t have an explicit rating system I feel like we unconsciously follow a similar pattern with new coders and it’s unfortunate. Given that older staff generally have a legacy o

When did evidence ever change the minds of the incredulous? The whole debate has become so polluted by the forces who want no action on climate change we can’t even use the original description any more.

Why is it better than the Google TV (new Chromecast). We’ve bought every iteration of these and had no issues whatsoever with them. I don’t notice advertising unless it’s within Prime streams. The latest Google TV even has an Ethernet por

It didn’t have to be that way but badge engineering a VW wasn’t a great idea. Then again I know nothing because they sell a ton of those things.

Bit of a shame what has happened to classic Porsche prices. They used to be “car guy” cars. Now the prices went wackadoodle they’ve become cars for people who…aren’t car guys and can’t even pronounce it properly. Interesting history on th

Making peace with the lived ones might be harder. Chasing the startup dream ended in bitterness, disappointment and debt. It forever damaged my marriage and my mental health. Be careful what you wish for.
