Ah crap. I was just working on my resume too. Well, guess I'm moving to Mega + Emacs again once it comes back up. I'm not going to trust any online service with my workflow if they're going to have downtime like this.

Personally, I think it's a little frightening that the general public seems to have lost interest in the once-hot debate about whether or not platform providers are responsible for the content on their platform. This article assumes th

The answer to that question is 50% "We don't know enough about the human brani" and 50% "Yes." There's been a lot of research into organic computing and how it could relate to neural networks, but it's an

+1. I haven't seen a single free video editor that is actually professional grade like Davinci Resolve is. Openshot and Olive/Kdenlive may be great at replacing iMovie and Windows Movie Maker, but there's a level of featurefu

If you want to write a program in a Lisp and ship it as a compiled binary, your best bet is to use Common Lisp and compile it with SBCL. A stripped SLAD binary will be way smaller with way less overhead then running a whole host of bytecode

Clojure compiles to Java bytecode so it's use as an embedded script engine will be limited to programs written in Java, or else you'll have a huge overhead with having to run a JVM next to your application. It's a shame, too,

Linux has always been treated like it's Linus's personal project. That's why more than a few of us believed that Linus taking a 'break' a few months ago was the beginning of the end. It turns out that not much chang

Thunderbird is a XUL implementation with a lot of JavaScript being used for its UI. It's as close as you can get to being the Electron of Firefox without being in a PPA. The most recent version (Thunderbird 60) introduced sweeping UI c

This is definitely one of the bigger issues. Early on, GIMP adopted the Emacs development style of building a solid core of functionality in C combined with a REPL for a scripting language within which other features can be developed. Unfor

Yep. There's a reason that the GIMP project also spawned one of the most widely-used graphical abstraction layers in desktop computing history.

What happened is Blender followed a linear development trajectory, constantly adding new features and fixing bugs at a reasonable pace. GIMP, on the other hand, adds a handful of features once every year and a half. Marketing was also a fac
