None follow apples spec because it’s a month old. It’s not for technical reasons. Like it or not (TBH I’m in the fence about it), it WILL be the standard.

You would look at how much that costs and make a different decision. It can’t scale economically to Twitch size without massive amounts of investment into POPs (source: I built the HLS transcoding stack/infrastructure and HTML5 player

My guess, 5 years. And the cisco “optimizations” May work well for a conference call with a perfectly still camera and low spacial and temporal information density. Applying the same techniques to handheld action video would produce very po

“Less expensive” only if you don’t count the license cost, which is still unknown in HEVC.

I’ll probably get a lot of hate for this, but if a guy did the same thing, there is a good change he would be praised for “career hacking”, and working the system to his advantage. Spending time with the other team would be good communicati

“Mediocrity + two years of tech experience = six figures. Kids who can code and are two years out of school, who are mediocre, are making $100,000-plus in the market. What’s worse is that they believe they’re worth it. If you can code, yay

In Common Encryption (encrypted mp4 files) 8 bytes IVs are a fully supported and documented. And sometimes preferred for compatibility. CENC mode even uses CTR, so the IV is simply incremented every block.

Don't confuse DASH and HTML5. DASH was announced VERY shortly after HLS (within the same year). And both of these predate modern video on the web. HTML5 video does not play DASH anyway. MSE can play the same binary format as DASH, but

We have been using HLS exclusively for about two years now. The flash player plays the HLS stream. We will remove flash completely in 2016.
