This is the sad truth of it. As a candidate I greatly appreciate feedback but I know there are others who will try to paint their not getting hired as due to bias (classism, racism, sexism, etc) without any evidence. I don't blame thos

The bar is low for such tools regardless of programming language. In a language as dynamic as Ruby it's several miles into the Earth's crust. The tool won't be able to tell you much of anything you shouldn't already know

The problem is that they are abusing a statute that we all know is harmful more generally and creating precedent for others to do it.

Exactly. All they did was remove an open source repository. It's still trivial to access their services in a way that they admit is harmful to their customers' privacy. As a bonus, now it's on the front page of Hacker News. I

Unless society is willing to allocate a larger percentage of GDP towards medical research it really is zero-sum which diseases get funding and which do not.

You don't need a government agency to test for THC potency. Businesses can and do already solve that problem. That doesn't seem to be what the parent commenter was getting at, regardless. As an experienced grower I would trust my

Do you really believe that people would "cut" legal marijuana with "dangerous chemicals" and sell it from their dispensary? This barely ever happens with illegal marijuana. The reason drugs like heroin and cocaine are

"Marijuana laws" are what caused this mess in the first place. The title of this post makes it sound like government is doing something rather than getting out of the way.

You're missing my point. My point is that those places are even more culturally distant from NYC but no one ever tells them to "go back where you came from". Btw, also a Midwesterner. Recently left NYC. Finally took the advic

I'm willing to bet you wouldn't refer to other groups as "flooding" NYC. Why do New Yorkers find it acceptable to say such things about Midwesterners?

This is why people are so outraged. We were supposedly past the days where something like this can happen in a century old industry like commercial aviation. I understand that ensuring the safety of new airplane designs is more complicated

I hope you're right but this reminds me of the very sad saying, "Bike lanes are painted in blood". Why can't we properly value safety over convenience and profits before there is a huge accident?

If you've really not put in any time for independent study and have only 4 years experience on the job, you are not "average". You are below average, and apparently unaware of it. Not to mention a cancer on the industry. It&#

The thing about software engineering is that it doesn't require expensive post graduate education like med school. The barrier to entry is much lower. Many status seekers will eventually realize a few things about software: 1. Wait, I

It's really not a career path you should get into if you're just in it for the money. Your friends will probably wash out within 3-5 years after they figure out they're not actually interested in software engineering.
