I have 50 or so RSS feeds, a few went stale, I thought the URL had changed. Turns out they are just not publishing. It's pretty rare to find a site I want without being able to find a RSS feed for it.

Not sure what's going on, but my Ubuntu 23.10 system with a Ryzen 7900 (non-x) with 12 cores is 3.1x faster than the AMD EPYC 9R14 with 64 cores and 2.6x faster than the Intel Xeon 8488C with 48 cores. I just did the usual git clone, m

Story I heard about the Phalanx is that it detected and fired on a kite. Split it in two with a short burst. Then two more bursts as it cut the two pieces in half. An engineer commented on the radar tracking it's own bullets and tha

Interesting paper. I focus more on the latency than bandwidth. The paper gets a few things wrong, DDR5 is not a single 64bit channel, but 2 x 32 bit channels. So the normal Xeon is 16 x 32 bit channels, not 8x64 bit. He talks about cache

Yeah, up to DDR4 it's standard, or at least common to have 64 bit channels. But with DDR5 it's standard to have 2 32 bit channels per dimm. Unfortunately many confuse number of dimms with number of channels, which is wrong for D

Yes, as does any most DDR5 systems, but they are still 128 bits wide or 4 x 32 bit channels.

Apple does not use HBM, just LPDDR5 with wider interfaces. Xbox X/One, PS4/5, AMD server/workstation chips (threadripper (and pro), siena, and epyc), and apples above the base model m1/m2/m3 all use wider memory in

Just pointing out that AMD has been shipping cheap APUs with nice memory systems that increase iGPU performance for over 10 years. Just mystifies me that AMD hasn't shipped similar in a laptop, SFF, or desktop yet. Especially during t

Xbox One came out in 2013, 11 years ago, with an AMD CPU. PS4 came out in 2013, 11 years ago, with an AMD CPU.

You'd think after AMD shipped Xbox One, XboxX, PS4, and PS5 with decent iGPUs and a decent memory bandwidth they might bless one of their APUs with > 128 bit wide memory. Seems an obvious bottleneck that would improve GPU performan

The way it was explained to me is that at the big bang space itself was expanding at faster than the speed of light. So over blackhole density could evolve into less than blackhole density.

From quora: The vacuum in solar space is around 10^7 atoms per cubic metre; the vacuum of interstellar space is around 10^6 atoms per cubic metre; and the vacuum of intergalactic space is around 1 atom per cubic metre.

Quite a bit, it's expensive to turn rocks into sand. Seems plausible that mines will start selling off their sand (after whatever they are mining is removed).

Sure, but if you don't know what you are doing, and have a need for lubricating something at home, on a bike, or on a car, you are MUCH better off with a oil, graphite, teflon, or grease. Sure professionals use WD40 when appropriate.

There was a huge push to custom streaming services. Even on just for star trek, really? It seems like many services are losing money, firing CEOs, and selling content to netflix again.

Sure you could have multiple level-0 backups to increase the odds of whatever blob you have corrupted can be found in other copies, but that's inefficient. It's much more efficient to deduplicate, then add redundancy. Like say st
