I used to live in France, and I remember hearing about how it's functionally impossible to evict someone who refuses to move out. There are many horror stories of people squatting places, or just not paying rent anymore. The police won

Yeah, I was surprised when I received mine that it doesn't have an "off" mode, by default. Granted, the battery lasting over a week is fine, but considering I only use it a couple days a week, it feels a bit wasteful. I might

Scandinavia here. Banks, pharma, industry, commercial buildings still use NFC for building access control. 25% of those use things modern enough to be easily cloned by the F0 (e.g.: not FireDES). My underground parking sends a wireless sign

I easily cloned access cards to the building of a club I'm a member of, as the company managing the security access went the way of the dodo. Granted, it's not a long term solution, but it's a stop-gap measure that allows us

Both AC controls and volume are on touch-sensitive buttons on the new VW entertainment systems. The volume bar/AC temperature buttons don't even light up at night, making it completely invisible under the bright touch screen. Once

How exactly does one increase the engine displacement on a moped? I’ve heard this claim many times, but more often than not it was just a random mechanic who charged a few hundred euros to put a different speedometer with inflated readings.

Or, you know, use a hash of the previous row as a column value of the current row. That way, you can’t tamper with any data already stored in the database.

Not OP, but I have (virtually) the same rule. I’m averaging about 3 beers a year, and only when I really, _really_ feel like it. I don’t have a specific reason for it. The one reason most people seem to accept is when I say “I don’t like th

Indeed. I have 2TB of storage that is only 5 times slower than my 32GB of main memory (4GB/s vs 20GB/s).

I remember being on a decent wired connection, working late in the office in London. All of a sudden, I got a call from the IT manager for Europe, who wanted my help to figure out which device was performing a DDoS or was part of a botnet.

Not OP, but my current gig is literally building streaming data pipelines on top of S3 using lambdas that only have a few hundred MBs of RAM to process gigabytes or more of data. S3FS is as close as it comes to mounting in my book.

Here in Denmark, banks typically use NemID; a government issued 2FA system. The basic version uses an OTP sheet of ~140 passwords. People can opt in to use phone-based validation (push notifications to an app and confirmation with a slider)

Just don’t allow outbound DNS except from your pihole, and the Chromecast will use whatever DNS server you give it. Also, make sure to block UDP and TCP on port 53, as well as UDP on port 443 (Chrome snitching).

Not OP, but in my case, most of my VLANs can’t perform DNS requests to WAN. Only the pi.hole server is able to do that (and other devices in the DMZ). Reasoning: appliances like Chromecast/Apple TV/whatever will often ignore DHCP
