If being nice precludes offering a legitimate criticism, then I'm happy to be mean. I didn't use an ad-hominem, or attack some trivial mistake in their implementation. I am opening a conversation on, what I see as, a growing trend

I'm so tired of sites trying to bring animated/turnable pages to the web. Pages make sense when you're constrained to to the size of a physical book, but here on the web you can have infinitely long pages with sections divide

Not for financial reasons at all - it's convenience, the ability to get releases earlier, and the lack of DRM-free video on legal sites.

Then you just use more specialized content aggregators or more specific searches. To make an analogy to reddit - rather than following r/math, you'd follow a specific topic like r/compling.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the argument behind this piece seems to essentially be "ignorance is bliss and science is bad because it takes away the mystery"? It's hard to imagine a more anti-intellectual view than that.

Maybe, but does anyone think about the ad-buying system that they are supporting before they click on an ad? Personally, I doubt that ethical consumerism runs that deep.

Yeah, I agree about the term "threads" - it doesn't make for a very direct metaphor. As for functions, I think the term makes sense, even with the non-mathematical definition, and especially in the context of OOP: > an act

I'm not sure if a term like "tasks" / "jobs" / "actions" makes more sense. You wouldn't necessarily separate each thing that a program does into a new thread... Functions are for separating
