Most modern games use various tricks to minimize or eliminate loading screens, with varying degrees of success. Common ideas include using low-quality assets for far-away objects, dynamically replacing them when the player gets closer; crea

Now you have a situation where a large part of the population is forced to pay a private middleman for the privilege of interacting with their government. That's not an improvement.

Early fire departments were run by insurance companies to fight fires on their customers' properties. Those who couldn't afford insurance would be left to burn. http://www.london-fire.gov.uk/FireMarksAndPayments.asp

That was the first way Wii owners got homebrew software running: the Wii version of Zelda: Twilight Princess didn't do a bounds check when reading the name of the player's horse from a save file. http://wiibrew.org/wiki/Twilight_Hack#Expla

The story I saw claimed that Malekpour developed open-source file-upload software that was later used by porn sites without his knowledge. Do you have a source for your claim that he was directly involved with the porn sites themselves? ht

The Kindle version of the ESV Bible makes clever use of the Kindle's index feature. All the verses in the Bible are indexed using abbreviated book names. So if I want to reach John 3:16, I hit Menu -> Index and type "jn 3 16<enter&#

I'm don't know about the Kindle app, but Kindle devices have Facebook and Twitter sharing built in. Once you link to your account, you can just select some text and tweet it.

Go right ahead. Name some uses for a censorship-resistant network that doesn't violate the law of the country in question. (It doesn't count if the use merely breaks a law you dislike, as in Chinese or Iranian suppression of dissidents.)

I don't quite follow the reasoning. Wouldn't it make more sense to make legit media consumption easier in countries with lax copyright enforcement and widespread infringement?

It's simple: we change the license agreements. Media licensing right now is controlled by people who want to pretend that the Internet can easily be split into regions just like their physical distribution networks. Distributors have a lot

This feels like a publicity stunt. DigSin is single-oriented (that's even what the name means!), and it's far from unusual for labels to release a free single to promote the album. Meanwhile, plenty of independent artists on sites like Band

Censorship of the top-content list is actually a valid point against them. It means Megaupload had some system to identify infringing files, but rather than flagging them for investigation or deletion, they simply removed them from the publ

Is there really an obvious 1st-amendment issue here? SOPA is a censorship tool with great potential for abuse, but as written and intended it targets IP infringement, a very narrow category of speech that our society has already decided to
