You're dismissing LLM-generated text as the "merest resemblance of thinking" when the way it resembles thinking is becoming increasingly useful. When I prompt a coding agent to fix a bug, it outputs text describing a hypothes

Sounds like a nice setup. The way exe.dev does things seems somewhat similar.

Who wants to deal with YAML? Sometimes the easiest way to set up a VM is by talking to your phone: https://commaok.xyz/ai/just-in-time-software/ I mean, I don't do that, but I'll type a prompt.

This is just one detail, but I think something must have gone wrong if you go for a walk and even the "city-owned sidewalk" seems part of an alienating scene? How are sidewalks part of the problem?

The article assumes there are people who want clusters. But a single Linux VM in the cloud can scale pretty far. Separate VM's for different apps works well for isolation. Why do I need a cluster?

You can do that but you're laundering ignorance into precise-seeming mathematics. Better to just say "we're probably somewhere in the middle, not at the beginning or end" and leave it at that. Calling a peak is hard.

Seems to me that the default is "I don't know what's going to happen" and if you're making a confident prediction, bring evidence. Scott makes a Lindy effect argument which is plausible, but don't let that fool

I imagine we'll get to "good enough" for hobbyist programmers fairly quickly, but businesses will still be willing to pay more for faster and smarter. Why make your programmers wait?

I tried Codex web. It kinda sucks and OpenAI doesn't seem to be promoting it? Look elsewhere if you want a Linux VM in the cloud. (I quite like exe.dev and they do have good mobile support.)
