Not sure why you find it discouraging. Having a degree means you probably went through a more formal process and were exposed to a more academic-way of studying things which can benefit your career as well as your personal life. Knowledge i

Doesn't this mainly have to do with capitalism and a sort of "tragedy of the commons"? Why do supermarkets look so dull, boring and not at all aesthetically pleasing? Because they're super optimized for selling to the ma

This article talks about everything except what I think is the value proposition of Bitcoin/blockchain: A gambling system one can speculate about entirely anonymously. It’s anonymous Las Vegas and people love it. It’s a programmable Wa

You can think of Webpack as a really powerful, fully-featured, plugin-oriented webserver (to serve your JS, assets, data etc) for Nodejs. You can rebuild the whole thing in Deno or whatever but you'll probably end up with the same boil

This makes sense and understand what you're saying. But the idea of having a full extra day where I don't have to open the laptop and can instead concentrate totally on myself is much more important than a decompression day at wor

I wonder how much really going by train is sustainable compared to flying when you count in all the costs of maintenance of the rails, making tunnels, burden on surrounding environment etc whereas with flying this is virtually non-existent.

Isn't this what React Server Components [1] do? Where parts of the tree are executed on client or server or both. And the data is "streamed" to client. Their "DAG" is essentially the react tree. So sounds very simil

Meh, not convinced. Sure you can craft a shitty built bike with cheap parts so to learn more quickly about how the bike fails, and sure you can probably make some money selling these shitty bikes. But I’m in it for the craft. I want to buil

I mean conceptually the idea is "money without intermediaries" which is quite fascinating. But when you stop and think about it for a sec you realize that we need intermediaries or else the richer will become unstoppable kings wit

With a climate crisis the last thing we needed was to make the most effective energy consumption system ever constructed. The whole thing literally works on competing on consuming more energy. No other system works so efficiently towards su

Get a cheap bike (you can literally find one for 50 euro on used sites) and hook up a cargo trailer to it (another 30 euro) and you got yourself a cargo bike.

I moved to the Netherlands (Amsterdam) a few years ago. I think the main reason the quality of life is so high here is because of the bike infrastructure and how it took over the cars. This to me is the main reason cost of housing in the ci

I think of Satoshi as a genius for the invention. Unfortunately the invention is causing a global climate crisis. Similar to how Einstein's laws helped create the atomic bomb.

Serious question: wouldn't just turning preferences of a normal monitor to black/white give you the same result? And is e-ink really better for eyes? Not sure I've seen research in this regard.

I feel like this is how the UX for developing software should be. Types and intellisense plus copilot somewhat bring us close to something like this. Where adding a new module somehow automatically adjust itself to the project instead of ha

I was talking about the consensus part. You don't need any client code to understand which is the agreed-upon chain, you verify the hash was generated using lots of energy. For transacting indeed you need to trust the various clients,

I'm curious how largish software projects are organized to deal with tech debt. Is it just ingrained and taken into account for say 20% of the work at each sprint planning? Is there a specific team dedicated to doing tech debt stuff? D
